Congratulations to Raydiant Oximetry, Inc. for receiving a $1 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to advance the development of their non-invasive fetal pulse oximeter to detect fetal distress during childbirth. March of Dimes invested in Raydiant Oximetry through our Innovation Fund to support Raydiant's development of a solution for identifying fetal distress. We are excited to see the progress Raydiant has made to date, and we are looking forward to collaborating with them as they continue to advance this important solution. Our supporters, volunteers, and team members have been advocating for policies to support the health of moms and babies. We're pleased to share some recent highlights from our advocacy team: 💜 The Senate unanimously passed March of Dimes-endorsed bill: The Bottles and Breastfeeding Equipment Screening (BABES) Enhancement Act. The BABES Enhancement Act will help ensure TSA, and private security, keeps its employees up to speed with policies requiring hygienic handling of breast milk and formula to make it easier for parents to fly with their breast milk and breastfeeding supplies. We appreciate the leadership of Senator Tammy Duckworth, Senator Steve Daines, and Senator Mazie Hirono for making this victory possible for parents across the country. We look forward to the House following the Senate’s lead and sending this bill to the President soon. 💜 Senator Ron Wyden, Senator Maggie Hassan, and 16 Senators introduced the Keeping Obstetrics Local Act to address issues in maternity care deserts by improving Medicaid and other payment rates to support eligible rural and high-need urban hospitals and other labor and delivery facilities. The act requires all states to extend postpartum coverage under Medicaid for 12 months, which three states have not done yet. We will continue to fight to expand this benefit to all families. During his month long stay in NICU I turned to March of Dimes for support, guidance and comfort during one of the most challenging times of my life. I believe their work is lifechanging and is improving the health of all moms and babies. This is why I am proud to support and serve as the chair for this year’s Women of Distinction Luncheon.” Join Stephanie at the Women of Distinction luncheon on Friday November 22, 2024 at 11:30am at Illuminate in Sunrise, FL, to honor and celebrate women innovators, influencers, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs that have effected change in the community and beyond. While many people think of doulas as birth support, their role extends far beyond labor. Doulas provide emotional guidance and help you feel informed and empowered during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. Some doulas focus specifically on the postpartum stage, offering support with recovery, breastfeeding, and adjusting to life with a newborn. Read our latest News Moms Need blog about how a postpartum doula can be an added layer of support in the NICU, helping you manage the unique challenges you face. https://lnkd.in/dHS2m-Vi

At 38 weeks, Kim and Alex learned their baby's heart was no longer beating. Nine hours of labor later, Kim and Alex held Ethan for the first and last time. With heavy hearts, they left the hospital not with their baby, but with a blue box containing Ethan's tiny fingerprints and footprints. Three years after Ethan’s passing, Kim and Alex welcomed Bella Louise into the world. The joy and anticipation of bringing Bella home were a stark contrast to the somber memories of their last departure from the hospital. Her presence remains a reminder of hope and healing. Moved by their experience, Alex joined the Executive Leadership Committee of March of Dimes. In honoring Ethan's memory, Kim and Alex share their story to raise awareness and support for other families who might face similar challenges, demonstrating that even in the face of profound loss, love and hope can prevail. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Month. Miscarriage, stillbirth, and other conditions can cause a pregnancy to end before or during birth. Infant death can be caused by preterm birth, birth defects, and other health conditions. March of Dimes honors those who’ve experienced loss, and provides resources for those facing unthinkable challenges and struggling with unimaginable loss to find hope, answers, and a sense of community. For many team members at March of Dimes, our mission is personal. March of Dimes Interim Chief Medical Officer, Amanda Williams, MD, MPH, FACOG shares her experience as survivor of preeclampsia and NICU parent. She raises awareness about preeclampsia and the potential benefits of low dose aspirin. She advocates for maternal health education, underscoring the importance of recognizing and addressing symptoms early on in pregnancy—potentially saving lives in the process. Preeclampsia can cause serious problems for you and your baby, including preterm birth. When prescribed, low dose aspirin (also called baby aspirin) can help keep you and your baby safe from the risks of preeclampsia. Together, we can make significant strides to reduce negative maternal and infant outcomes. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/dR-kMSpe #lowdosebigbenefits #itstartswithmom
