Maternal deaths declined by 17% in 2023—but we’re still in a crisis. The U.S. remains the most dangerous high-income country to give birth, and Black & AI/AN moms continue to face devastating disparities. This is unacceptable. Supporting families throughout their NICU experience is why we #MarchForBabies. Georgia says, it's "a feeling I will never forget. After spending the first 45 days of Adele’s life in the NICU we finally got to bring her home," she shares. "Nothing prepares you for a NICU stay. Mamas you are strong." Thank you Georgia for sharing your experience. When it comes to giving families the best possible start, we all have the power to help. March of Dimes is dedicated to bringing people together to tackle America's maternal and infant health crisis—one person, one community, and one step at a time. Yesterday, March of Dimes advocates, staff, and partners gathered in Richmond for our 2025 Virginia Advocacy Day as part of our nationwide March for Change effort. With 34 dedicated advocates, we convened 16 meetings with legislators to advance critical maternal and infant health policies in the Commonwealth. We were honored to meet with key leaders, including Speaker of the House of Delegates Don Scott, Delegate Candi Mundon King, Delegate Marty Martinez, and Senator Aaron Rouse, to discuss pressing issues such as modernizing midwifery care, expanding access to at-home blood pressure monitoring, and paid family and medical leave. Our advocates’ efforts were recognized in both the House of Delegates and Senate Chambers, underscoring the importance of maternal and infant health in this legislative session. With the Virginia General Assembly considering key reforms, March of Dimes will continue to advocate for policies that support healthy moms and strong babies. Join us in this fight. The 2024 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine winners, Dr. Victor Ambros and Dr. Gary Ruvkun, sit down for a rare, in-depth joint interview. They discuss the journey that led to their groundbreaking discovery of miRNA in a roundworm, Dr. Ruvkun’s later identification of miRNA in humans, and how their early fascination with astronomy shaped their scientific paths. The conversation also touches on what Dr. Ambros’ late father might have said about his son’s Nobel win and a decades-old story from Dr. Ruvkun about an unforgettable trip to Bolivia. #marchofdimes #scientists #scienceresearch #sciencefunding #scientificdiscovery #marchofdimesresearch
