This week, we honor Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. Join us in letting your legislators know that you support the Stillbirth Health Improvement and Education (SHINE) for Autumn Act. This bill focuses on preventing stillbirths through enhanced data collection, analysis, reporting, and research. With your help, we can move this bipartisan solution forward to help end our country’s stillbirth crisis. Take action: https://p2a.co/75uyzft

Successful awardees will support project activities focused on: 1. Growing, diversifying, and supporting the local community-based doula workforce. 2. Strengthening and/or establishing the local doula hub model. 3. Improving collaboration between community-based doulas and their local maternity care system partner. Deadline is November 24, 2024. At March of Dimes, the health of all moms and babies is our mission. We applaud Melinda French Gates’ $250 million investment in women’s health, especially as the U.S. remains the most dangerous developed nation to have a baby—this must change. Improving maternal health today ensures a healthier future for all families. Today, we join in celebrating the rich culture, history, language, and tradition of Indigenous peoples, while also recognizing that there are ongoing challenges face by Indigenous peoples such as discrimination, poverty, lack of access to basic healthcare and prenatal care, and more. In Billings, Montana at the Intermountain Health St. Vincent Hospital NICU, over 25% of extremely low birthweight babies are Native American. In an effort to provide culturally appropriate support, one of the things that the NICU Family Support team does is make moccasins from scratch for, and with, the families. If we can all take small steps that promote understanding and respect for Indigenous communities, we can work toward a kinder, more inclusive future. #IndigenousPeoplesDay

We loved being at Mama Glow's #DoulaExpo last weekend! The Doula Expo is an annual culture-shifting festival that centers on a vision for the future of birth work. One of the ways we can fight to improve #maternalhealth outcomes, especially for Black women, is by increasing doula accessibility. Learn more about how you can take action to increase resources and support for moms here: https://lnkd.in/gdUn-RTE #BlanketChange

As a NICU graduate mom, Adriana Carrig, Founder and CEO of Little Words Project, wanted to give back to NICU staff during NICU Awareness month at March of Dimes NICU Family Support® program in Hackensack Meridian Health at Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital. Adriana distributed March of Dimes It Starts With Mom “Strong Mom” signature bracelets and others with inspiring words to thank and celebrate the incredible work that NICU staff do each day to care for babies and their families throughout their NICU experience. Many babies spend their earliest days in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) due to preterm birth, birth defects, surgical or genetic conditions, or other diagnosis. This can be a stressful and overwhelming experience. Together, we can make a difference for families. We're proud to partner with Little Words Project, and thank them for joining us in the mission to fight for the health of all moms and babies, by giving back 25% of net proceeds to March of Dimes from Strong Mom bracelet sales. This Hispanic Heritage Month, join us and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in building awareness for folic acid in the diets of Hispanic moms and families by sharing these messages from the Mother’s Love:  Roots of Life with Folic Acid campaign and the Heritage to Health Toolkit: https://lnkd.in/guhnRAzq 1 in 5 Hispanic women does not get enough folic acid daily. Folic acid is vital to prevent conditions, including a higher risk of a baby with a neural tube defect, which is a birth defect of the brain and spine.
