In this panel discussion from last years CIP Center for Intellectual Property #CIPForum 2023, our Micky Minhas reflects that more data has been created in the last two years than since the beginning of time to that point two years ago - the sheer volume of information in our interconnected world is unprecedented. Combined with the raw processing power available today, we are able to generate AI insights like never before. While the underlying technologies such as 4G, 5G, Wi-Fi and video technologies may be addressed by licensing platforms, the bigger challenge is over the data itself. Hear more from Micky and his fellow panelists in the full recording.
CIP FORUM 2023 session: THE FUTURE OF IP IN AN INTERCONNECTED WORLD with Dr. Ulrike Till, Dan McCurdy, Nigel Swycher, Micheal Binns, Esq. and Micky Minhas Technological progress continues to thrive, fueled by digital innovation, AI, supercomputing, and automation. However, economic challenges and a lack of understanding of IP persist. The aftermath of the pandemic, low growth rates, and high inflation are hindering innovation. Yet, global awareness of the potential impact of IP is steadily increasing. Recent developments in generative AI have brought increased attention to the intersection of AI and intellectual property. The interconnected devices, internet of things, and data are driving a wave of 'Frontier Technologies,' ultimately contributing to the AI boom. Intellectual property needs to adapt to the interconnected digital world, and the law must catch up with the transformation from physical to virtual, including the metaverse and beyond. Amidst technological advancements, there are challenges surrounding copyright issues, recognition in AI models, patent rights, data ownership, and legal uncertainties. Education and awareness about the importance of protecting intangible assets are crucial for the success of IP in an interconnected world. Congratulations to our Avanci colleagues on their sixth new program launch of 2023. From starting the year focused on licensing 4/3/2G SEPs for connected vehicles, they've added new programs for automotive aftermarket devices, 5G connected vehicles, 4/3/2G smart meters, 4/3/2G EV chargers, ATSC 3.0 broadcast TV devices and video streaming, bringing the benefits of simple and efficient sharing of technology to new markets. A great way to wrap-up the year!
Yesterday was another good day for Avanci, with the launch of our latest program for the IoT, Avanci EV Charger. With the rollout of EV charging infrastructure high on the agenda for many, our market-driven solution can simplify the sharing of key technologies, making things efficient for all. My thanks to Easee, Eaton, GARO and all of our 43 initial licensors for their trust and confidence in us, as we work to share the efforts of inventors from around the world. As a result of our partnership with ADAPT.legal and Street Law, Inc., we’ve been working with the Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet in Dallas. Members of our team spent time with Avanci and Innovius colleagues at the school, delivering interactive lessons covering Advertising Law and Intellectual Property Law. We then welcomed the students to our offices, where they spent a day putting their knowledge into action in IP and Advertising workshop exercises, had a careers fair with our employees sharing their respective career paths and experiences, finishing with the presentation of certificates and, of course, some swag! Diversity in IP is a topic that matters to us, as an international company with partners across the globe. We were excited to participate in this community outreach effort and engage with these bright and motivated students. Who knows, some may even be our colleagues in the future! Our team look forward to the next opportunity. Our thanks to the students and faculty of Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet, the Dallas Independent School District, Street law and ADAPT.legal for their support!
