Everyday hero’s got their chance to shine at the annual CASA Superhero Run hosted by CASA of Kern County last weekend. Supporting children in need was at the top of everyone’s agenda and those supporters came out in force! To date CASA has provided supportive services to over 3,000 children experiencing neglect or abuse in our community. Shelter overcrowding often brings to light the heartbreaking reality for sweet dogs like Momma Millie. These soon-to-be mothers face the tragic fate of euthanasia due to lack of space. The thought of euthanizing pregnant moms or entire litters is absolutely heart-wrenching for shelter personnel. Thankfully, Danielle, our dedicated Enrichment and Training Coordinator, advocated for Momma Millie’s rescue. On Monday, Millie and our team welcomed a beautiful litter of 8 puppies into the Marley’s Mutts family. We have 6 precious girls and 2 adorable boys. It’s National Black Dog Day and we are showcasing all the AMAZING black dogs we currently have available for adoption! Unfortunately black dogs are twice as likely to be overlooked by adopters and this means black dogs are twice as likely to be euthanized in shelter environments. For some, coat color matters when in reality shouldn’t because black dogs are equally as wonderful as any lighter coated pups! #FreedomFriday and 22 Lives Saved! 🐾 Despite being limited on space and understaffed, our incredible team at Marley’s Mutts opened their hearts and said yes to rescuing 22 precious souls that were facing euthanasia. We are profoundly grateful to our dedicated staff and volunteers for their unwavering sacrifices and commitment. Because of their efforts, 22 lives have been saved and given a second chance at happiness. When Bertha arrived at the shelter, she was a heartbreaking sight, bearing the scars of severe injuries and overbreeding. Her body told a story of unimaginable hardship, with ears nearly nonexistent from excessive cropping, scars covering her skin, a droopy lip, and broken teeth. Despite all she had endured, Bertha’s spirit remained unbroken. Her incredible sweetness earned her ‘Novice’ status in our Miracle Mutts Program. Our Miracle Mutts Coordinator saw the miracles within Bertha and decided to foster her. Bertha’s wonderful nature shone through so brightly that Torie couldn’t resist adopting her.
