Several major companies have instated RTO mandates for their employees this quarter. Now, the debate over the necessity of in-office attendance is back with full force. Companies like Amazon, 3M, and Walmart stated that the mandates aim to increase interpersonal connections among their employees and create a more effective environment for collaboration. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, has been vocal of his belief that "something essential is missing" in the world of fully remote work. The company began requiring their employees to return to office 3 days a week back in 2022. These pro-RTO sentiments have been met with backlash from remote workers who believe that a return to office is not only unnecessary for productivity, but detrimental to their work/life balance.
