As we celebrate International Dog Day, a day dedicated to the bond we share with our canine companions and to raising awareness about their well-being, I’m excited to share the launch of the Paw Protecc initiative. This collaboration between Mars Petcare and Swiggy is focused on providing mobile shelters for community pets during the monsoon season in India. International Dog Day is a reminder of the responsibility we have to ensure that every dog, whether in a loving home or on the streets, is cared for and protected. The Mars State of Pet Homelessness report highlights a sobering reality: 69.3 million pets—60.5 million dogs and 8.8 million cats—are homeless in India, often facing harsh conditions on the streets. Paw Protecc is our response to this challenge, aligning perfectly with our mission to create a better world for pets. Through Paw Protecc, we’re taking tangible action to support pets affected by the prolonged monsoon. We’ve teamed up with Swiggy and various animal welfare associations to deploy mobile shelters at feeding points across cities, ensuring that these pets receive the shelter and balanced nutrition they need to survive. Paw Protecc is more than just an initiative; it’s a call to action. Everyone should have access to nutritious food, but for many families across the UK, not being able to afford food is a stark reality. Last year 1.1m emergency food parcels were distributed to children by food banks in The Trussell Trust network.
