Last night, the Health Care Coalition, in partnership with the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence (MNADV), proudly honored Jacquelyn Campbell, PhD, RN, FAAN, with the prestigious Health Care Response & Leadership Award at MNADV's annual awards ceremony. The award, which moving forward will be named after Dr. Campbell, was presented by the Coalition's Operations Manager, Audrey Bergin, MPH, MA, and Dr. Campbell delivered an inspiring acceptance speech alongside several other remarkable awardees. We are deeply grateful for Dr. Campbell's significant contributions to the health care sector, the domestic violence field, and the lives of survivors. Thank you to everyone who joined the Coalition and the Center for a Healthy Maryland for the Domestic Violence Awareness Film Screening of Aftershock last week! The event featured a powerful panel discussion addressing the maternal health crisis in the U.S., particularly focusing on the alarming rates of maternal mortality and morbidity among Black women. Our panelists highlighted the impacts of intimate partner violence and emphasized the importance of believing Black women, among other critical topics. There is still much work to be done, but we are grateful for the insights shared by these experts and their visions for change. In partnership with the Maryland Health Care Coalition Against Domestic Violence we are proud to honor Jacquelyn Campbell, PhD, RN, FAAN, as the recipient of the Health Care Response & Leadership Award at our annual awards ceremony. Dr. Campbell is a distinguished professor at the @johns-hopkins-university-school-of-nursing and a pioneering leader in the field of intimate partner violence (IPV) research. Her groundbreaking work has shaped the understanding of IPV and its impact on health outcomes, including the risk of homicide. As the creator of the Danger Assessment, a critical tool used to help women assess their risk of lethal violence, Dr. Campbell has made an enduring impact on the safety and well-being of abuse survivors. She has published over 300 scholarly articles and authored seven books on this vital issue. Her extensive research has been supported by 10 major national grants, where she has served as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator. Dr. Campbell's influence extends beyond research, as she collaborates with domestic violence service organizations across the United States and Canada, helping to translate her work into action that saves lives. Introducing another one of our incredible panelists, Shayna Banfield, MS, CHES, for the upcoming film screening and panel discussion of "Aftershock," scheduled for this Thursday, October 24th! Shayna Banfield is a passionate community health advocate and former Vice President of Programs at The National Council of Negro Women Headquarters. Shayna earned her bachelor’s degree in biology from Morgan State University and a master’s degree in Community Health Education from Towson University. Her work has focused on community health education, health policy, researching social determinants of health and advocating for equitable healthcare. Shayna has been the principal investigator and program administrator for a number of funded projects in Maryland, specifically in HIV/AIDS testing, cancer prevention programs and the Maryland Maternal Mortality Review Program. With extensive experience in maternal health policy and program management, Shayna is dedicated to improving outcomes for mothers and families.
