  • WE ARE HIRING: Director, Chesapeake and Coastal Service The Director of the Chesapeake and Coastal Service (CCS) Unit plans, directs and administers all aspects of the Unit including the oversight of a $110 million annual budget and approximately 80 staff. The Director represents the agency before federal, State and local officials, legislative committees, the Governor’s office, the legislature, local government officials and the public. CCS provides technical and financial assistance to better equip the state and its communities to balance the demands and needs of Chesapeake and coastal resource use, economic development and conservation. CCS resources are critical for achieving Chesapeake and Coastal Bays water quality and habitat restoration objectives and supporting the climate adaptation of habitats and communities. The Unit assists restoration of local waterways and shorelines, improved boating access, planning and preparation for climate impacts, managing the impacts of offshore wind energy development, mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions, environmental education initiatives, and other issues. This is accomplished through financial and technical assistance to state and local partners, rigorous use and delivery of science and decision support tools, strong public participation, education and effective intergovernmental coordination. CCS supports the department’s mission through partnerships with federal, state, and local government agencies; regional and international institutions; universities; formal and non-formal k-12 and community-based educators; nongovernmental organizations and the private sector. With programs that have a foundation in science and enable its on-the-ground application, CCS provides essential services for Maryland communities' resilience to a changing climate and access to healthy and diverse living resources and habitats.   • WE ARE HIRING: Natural Resources Biologist II The position participates in the production of nearly two dozen species for fish stock enhancement, education/outreach, cooperative fish culture projects, and restoration of anadromous species in Maryland waters of the Chesapeake Bay. The position uses a variety of strategies to raise fish for stocking, including intensive culture, extensive culture, and integrated culture.   • Today, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources honored 39 members of the 2023-2024 Maryland Conservation Corps during their graduation program at Wye Island Natural Resources Management Area. The ceremony capped the members’ completion of 10 months of job training, conservation work, and stewardship with the Maryland Park Service. Congratulations to all of our graduates!

  • Hunter Education Coordinator The Department of Natural Resources, Natural Resources Police, is currently accepting applications for a Contractual Administrative Officer III position, which will serve as Hunter Education Coordinator for its Hunter Education Program. This position is headquartered at the Natural Resources Police Safety Education Division office in Stevensville, Maryland. However, the position will be assigned a region, which includes Central Maryland (Carroll, Howard, Baltimore, Harford, and Cecil counties). The Coordinator may maintain an office at their home residence; with travel to the Division office one to two times weekly. The position is responsible for administering, managing, developing, and teaching hunter safety instructor workshops and local hunter safety programs; speaking and attending public relations functions and recruiting and training volunteer instructors; monitoring hunter education instructors and hunter education courses to ensure compliance with program standards; instructing students on the safe handling, care, and use of firearms and archery equipment as well as maintaining firearm inventory records, class schedules, instructor database information and writing documents and reports dealing with the State Hunter Education Program. Note: This work requires considerable evening and weekend work, and considerable travel both within the assigned region and throughout the State is necessary.   • WE ARE HIRING: The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Forest Service, is currently accepting applications for one (1) Tree Planting Specialist to support the implementation of the 5 Million Trees Initiative, a 9-year program established by the 2021 Tree Solutions Now Act. Position will perform outreach to community groups and landowners, provide technical assistance to accomplish tree planting projects, complete site inventories and reporting tasks, and support the continued care and management of newly established trees and forests. Work may include tree seed collection with volunteers or staff. Projects will be on public and private land, and cover urban and rural settings. Particular focus will be placed on overburdened and underserved communities where the establishment of trees can lead to a wide range of public health and environmental benefits. The positions will be part of a diverse, statewide team and will report to field offices with regional forestry staff.
