The doors of the Highmark Center for Health, Wellness and Athletics are now open at Carnegie Mellon University! The 160,000 square foot facility is home to full-service clinical areas for University Health Services, private and supportive spaces including a wellness garden for Counseling and Psychological Services, and a modern athletics facility for practice, performance, and athlete care. Copper fascia from the old Thistle Hall roof and the original wooden Skibo gym floor were incorporated into the building's design to pay homage to the building’s past. In recognition of World Heart Day being September 29th, we look back at the renovation work Mascaro performed to the cardiac catheterization suite at UPMC Shadyside. We renovated 16,000 square feet of space on the 5th floor to create 3 new Cath labs, a EP lab, procedure rooms, and other associated rooms. Specialists use these areas to learn facts about a patient’s heart like the amount of blockage in coronary arteries, diseases of the heart valves, and the concentration of oxygen in the blood flowing through the heart.
