This week we celebrate five years with Scott Anderson (he/him) on our team in Burlington, Vermont! He shares, "My favorite memory has just been working to build a community in Burlington. When I was hired, Pine Street had just started construction, so I really got a chance to help with what the branch would look and feel like. That process extended to forming the connection to the community around the Pine Street branch; now I feel we are so connected to the neighborhood and that is different than anywhere else I've worked. It feels amazing being part of something you know is ultimately much bigger than just yourself." Even when the housing market is tough, Mascoma Bank mortgage lenders find ways to support customers in reaching their financial goals. In 2024, Cody Dana, Sarah Powell, and Janet Costa broke a record for grant money secured for Vermont and New Hampshire first-time homebuyers! They worked with customers to land $141,000+ in grant funds toward downpayments from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston's Housing Our Workforce and Equity Builder Programs and over $10,500 from the Pathways to Homeownership program with local community partner AHEAD Inc.. It's a competitive grant process with tight requirements and a considerable time investment, but it is worth it to see five homeowners get the keys to homes of their own. Mascoma Community Development is pleased to announce the closing of $15 million in New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) allocation to finance the construction of a new peanut shelling facility in Santee, South Carolina. "MCD is pleased to provide NMTC funding to support Premium Peanut's project, which will add value to the local economy in a highly distressed census tract and improve the industry's regional supply chain. The new facility will allow Premium Peanut to expand capacity and create needed jobs, and we applaud its efforts to make a positive environmental impact through certain sustainability initiatives," says Tad A., Chief Operating Officer of MCD. Today we celebrate 15 years with Arlene Adams. One of the most memorable times for Arlene at Mascoma Bank was in 2011, when Vermont and New Hampshire suffered devastating damage from Hurricane Irene. She shares, "Working with municipalities, I knew FEMA would help, but towns had to cover the upfront costs. Mascoma Bank quickly made the decision to offer financial assistance. Our core towns told their neighbors and soon Mascoma became the 'go-to' bank. The Bank hosted BBQs so people could have a hot meal and see their neighbors. I cooked a lot of hamburgers! I was proud of our bank. Mascoma Bank was a force for positive change and our actions showed that the lives of our customers and neighbors truly mattered!"
