The TMS 402 requires that a 1 in. minimum air space is specified for anchored veneers. Weep vents are a critical part of the flashing system to provide drainage for wall assemblies. One issue that we frequently see is weep vents that are installed on top of the mortar bed joint, instead of on top of the flashing. which allows water to accumulate below the weep. For masonry wall intersections, we recommend using galvanized hardware cloth in lieu of stainless steel strap anchors unless specifically designing a flanged shear wall.
