Updates

  • MEC, the systems installation contractor for Ottawa’s Stage 2 LRT Project, has completed work on the East Segment of the light rail extension and is now focusing on the West Segment. Our team will soon begin installing the Overhead Catenary System (OCS) in the West, which will require 350 posts. These posts support the electrical cables that power the trains and are installed down the middle of the guideway. Once complete, the East extension will add 7.8 miles of new track and five stations, while the West extension will feature nine more miles and 11 new stations.

  • MEC's industrial solar teams have enjoyed some friendly competition this summer. The winning project team of a leadership-created, safety-focused competition would receive a visit from the boot van and could select a brand-new pair of boots. The winning team was recently able to enjoy the reward for their hard work. As our people picked out their new boots, some said, "Within my twenty years of doing this, I've never seen something quite like this." It's one small way we thank our craft and staff employees for always prioritizing safety.

  • Today, and every day, we're proud to recognize our amazing MEC interns! This summer, we have approximately 30 interns working on our projects and in our offices across North America. From engineering, construction management and safety to finance and more, these talented early-career professionals are making a real impact — problem solving, innovating and shaping the future of our industry. MEC Intern Isaiah Chavelas said this about his experience: "Throughout my internship with Mass. Electric Construction Co., I have discovered that every challenge is an opportunity to innovate and grow. I found this internship fulfilling because it has exposed me to hands-on experience and real-world problem solving that has ignited a passion for engineering.” #NationalInternDay

  • We’re committed to delivering quality services to our clients and communities safely. As we wrap up Construction Safety Week, hear from Electrical Field Engineer Hamza Mohammed on why he works safely every day: "Fewer incidents mean a more productive project and a safer team. My company relies on me to work safely for the prosperity of our projects and so I can return to my family safely each day." #ConstructionSafetyWeek
