If you’re team’s morale and productivity is low, there’s a good chance you’re not prioritizing their very real, very human needs. When leaders prioritize the human side of their workplace, it leads to happier, more engaged employees—and ultimately a stronger, more successful organization. Here are three ways to make that shift: 🔶 Empathy-Driven Communication: Open and honest conversations build trust. When leaders actively listen and respond to their team’s needs, employees feel valued and understood, fostering loyalty and motivation. 🔶 Personalized Growth Opportunities: Invest in each person's growth within the company by tailoring development plans to their unique skills and goals. This shows them you’re committed to their future and value them personally. 🔶 Flexible Work Environments: A one-size-fits-all approach to work doesn’t cut it. Offering flexibility in how and where employees work helps them thrive both professionally and personally, which in turn boosts overall productivity. By integrating these strategies into your organization you enhance your HR skills and transform your entire culture into one where people feel supported and empowered. Build a more inclusive workplace. Our book sold out for yet another SHRM conference! Sertrice Shipley and I also got to speak on what it means to be an active ally, which was met with such a positive response from our audience. My favorite part, though? Connecting with so many amazing people who share the same goal of making the workplace a more inclusive place. Thanks for being the highlight of the conference. ❤️

We need to talk about the elephant in the room. The 2024 Presidential Election. It’s no secret that the outcome will impact DEI efforts in the workplace and while everyone’s focused on their candidate of choice, and everything in the media associated with them, we think it’s time to talk about how to ensure DEI progress continues—regardless of the election’s outcome. Here are three ways we foresee the election impacting workplace DEI, and what you can do to keep your initiatives moving forward: 🔶 Impact on Funding Priorities: Shifts in national priorities may affect DEI budgets. 🔷Solution: Position DEI initiatives as integral to business success by demonstrating their measurable ROI. 🔶 Potential Policy Changes: Changes in policy might introduce challenges to established DEI practices. 🔷Solution: Proactively review current DEI policies and identify any areas vulnerable to change. Adapt your strategies to be flexible, so they remain effective and compliant. 🔶 Increased Workplace Tensions: Political climates can heighten tensions, making DEI conversations more challenging. 🔷Solution: Foster a culture of open dialogue. Establish guidelines for respectful communication and support safe spaces for employees to voice their concerns. These strategies will help safeguard your DEI efforts no matter who wins the election, making sure that inclusivity and progress remain a core part of your workplace. Build a more inclusive workplace. As a leader it can feel stressful, even anxiety-inducing, to sit down and discuss sensitive subject matter with an employee. But those who are open to having these types of conversations, regardless of how awkward and uncomfortable they may feel, create the foundation for lasting cultural change. Without them, organizations risk stagnation in their DEI efforts. Three methods for conducting awkward, yet productive, workplace conversations are: 🔶 Breathe Take a moment to take a pause, breath in and out, look around, and ground yourself 🔶 Let go Release the fears of others' judgements 🔶 Trust your partner Anybody that you're directly interacting with (e.g., coworkers, clients, significant other, friends, etc..). By cultivating brave communication and creative collaboration, you can foster the kind of inclusive culture that allow everyone to thrive. ==================== Build a more inclusive workplace.
