For many struggling with infertility, social media has become a go-to place for community, support, and information. But in a world where accessible, evidence-based fertility education is hard to come by, misinformation often fills the gap. And while much of the advice shared on social media is well-meaning, not all of it is safe. Maven’s latest peer-reviewed research, published in American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)'s open access journal, uncovers the landscape of fertility misinformation on TikTok, focusing in on posts tagged with “trying to conceive,” or #ttc. Here’s what we found: 🔎 The majority (57%) of the top-rated #ttc videos on TikTok promote strategies that aren’t backed by science. 🔎 The most common non-evidence-based strategies include taking Mucinex, taking dietary and probiotic supplements, and using progesterone. 🔎 Only 1 in 4 of the videos tagged #ttc are made by healthcare professionals—highlighting the urgent need for more accurate and accessible information. It’s clear: people struggling to conceive are seeking much-needed information but often encounter misleading advice that can complicate their journey.
