Yesterday, Dessa McCurdy was able to meet with some students from Central Westmoreland Career & Tech Center. MEI is happy to be a part of helping these students develop their trade.

MEI Services of the week- First Aid/CPR/AED Training When it comes to you and your workforce, being prepared for a medical emergency is not only the law but it is also human nature to help our fellow humans in a time of need.  With that being said, are you properly trained to provide medical treatment?  When it comes to OSHA, the Medical Services and First Aid Standard states that the following:  "In the absence of an infirmary, clinic, or hospital in near proximity to the workplace which is used for the treatment of all injured employees, a person or persons shall be adequately trained to render first aid. Adequate first aid supplies shall be readily available." While the standard is not specific when it comes to determine a distance it minutes, OSHA has provided a standard interpretation for workforces to help determine if they are required to have training or not. Here is an OSHA standard interpretation that helps you determine what "near proximity" means: "While the standards do not prescribe a number of minutes, OSHA has long interpreted the term 'near proximity' to mean that emergency care must be available within no more than 3-4 minutes from the workplace. Medical literature establishes that, for serious injuries such as those involving stopped breathing, cardiac arrest, or uncontrolled bleeding, first aid treatment must be provided within the first few minutes to avoid permanent medical impairment or death. Accordingly, in workplaces where serious accidents such as those involving falls, suffocation, electrocution, or amputation are possible, emergency medical services must be available within 3-4 minutes, if there is no employee on the site who is trained to render first aid." As a company, have you determined and reached out to your local emergency services to determine how long it would take to get a trained professional to your workplace within the time limit? Even if you meet the requirement, have you still considered getting employees trained to provide medical treatment as the first few minutes are critical in saving someone's life.  As an American Heart Association training site, McCutcheon Enterprises, Inc. we would be happy to assist you determining if you meet the standard OR are looking to get your employees trained. Please feel free to reach out to Scott Kachurik via email: scottk@completewastemgmt.com with any further questions.  

This is starting to become a weekly event for Dessa McCurdy, she was able to visit another Tech School in the Westmoreland Co area and donate some PPE to more wonderful students. Thank you to Mr. James Salem and the students of Northern Westmoreland Career & Technology Center, keep up the great work.

I had another opportunity today to meet with a few students and Mr. Worthington from ICTC in Indiana Co. MEI was happy to help another local tech school with some PPE for their classes. Supporting our local schools and trades is very important, they are a part of the future.
