Family gatherings during Christmas and special occasions are a time when everyone has an important role in the kitchen, bringing generations together to create unforgettable meals.   Another aspect close to Marlene's heart is Danza Azteca, a form of ritual dance originating in pre-Hispanic Mexico. This dance connects with God and nature, serving as a form of prayer and communication. 💃 Through the rhythm of the drums and the meaning of the danzas, Marlene has deepened her connection to her culture. "I was born and raised in New York City with Dominican roots. Both of my parents are from the Dominican Republic, from the beautiful towns of Puerto Plata and Monte Cristi. They taught me the value of hard work, the joy of our island’s stunning beaches, and the importance of striving for a better life. I am incredibly proud of the unity, the gatherings, and the food that define my culture. Tradition runs deep in everything we do—from sharing meals together, helping those in need, to celebrating life with music, dancing (Merengue, Bachata), and enjoying delicious dishes like rice, beans, pollo guisado (stewed chicken), potato salad, and fried sweet plantains. Our culture is joyful and always ready to have a good time! At work, I carry these values with me. I often help others by translating from Spanish to English and embody the team spirit I was raised with—offering a helping hand whenever it’s needed without expecting anything in return. If a department needs assistance, I’m there to help."
