About us
We are architects and urbanists who believe in the power of design as a catalyst for change. McIntosh Poris Architects has been delivering architecture, interior and urban design services for residential, commercial, and institutional clients since 1994. Cities and the communities that comprise them are in the midst of great change. And as an architectural firm rooted in engagement through dialogue with our clients and project stakeholders, our intention is to be the most relevant partner to the people and communities we serve. Our designs go through stages of adjustment and refinement, always tested against the needs and aspirations of a project. Through this inclusive process, MPA reaches a heightened understanding of the role each project has in the lives of its constituents. The end result becomes greater and more complex than if it had been designed by us alone. Such a process challenges our team to creatively respond with a solution that transforms place, building, and context, as well as the people and communities who inhabit them.

Gilly’s Clubhouse & Rooftop: Bedrock’s Homage to Nick Gilbert’s Passion for Detroit. Renovated by McIntosh Poris Architects, the building, formerly a long-abandoned Kay Baum department store originally built in 1965, now features multiple levels, including an enclosed glass rooftop area with a hacienda-inspired design, providing stunning views of the Detroit skyline. “To know Nick was to know a person with a true zest for life and celebrating with those around him”, said Dan and Jennifer Gilbert in a joint statement. “Gilly’s combines Nick’s love for food with his love for sports and entertainment right here in the heart of Detroit – a city he loved tremendously.” #architecture #restaurantdesign #detroitcityofdesign #detroitdevelopment #collaboration #underconstruction #MPAProjectsinProgress #MPArchitects #30YearsofMPA Bedrock Detroit

Laurie Hughet-Hiller, AIA, LEED AP, principal at McIntosh Poris Architects, has been named a GlobeSt.com Woman of Influence 2024! Described as a creative powerhouse and an advocate for experience-driven design, Laurie joined the CRE industry in 2001 and has contributed to several award-winning projects. Her career began in Los Angeles at Clive Wilkinson Architects and Rossetti. She returned to her native Detroit in 2009 to contribute her talents to the region’s redevelopment and has been a key player in the city’s revitalization efforts since. We are excited to see the opening of Michigan Central Station! In 2001, McIntosh Poris created plans to renovate the abandoned Michigan Central Depot and its surrounding neighborhood. The plans were instrumental in saving the building from demolition and stabilizing it for today’s development. #architecture #preservation #detroit #adaptiveruse #michigancentralopen #MPArchitects #30YearsofMPA
