About us

McKinney ISD is located in Collin County, and primarily serves students in the city of McKinney. MISD also serves students in parts of New Hope, Allen, Fairview, Princeton, and Lowry Crossing. One of the fastest growing school districts in Texas, McKinney ISD currently enrolls more than 24,500 students in 20 elementary schools, five middle schools, three high schools, two alternative campuses and one early childhood education center. Including administration and support, MISD maintains 68 facilities covering more than 4 million square feet on 603 acres of grounds. Founded in 1848 to educate the children of local farmers and small business owners, McKinney schools have been a focal point of our community for over 150 years. Although the world has changed dramatically since McKinney saw it first settlers, the importance of a strong educational system that provides children with skills to be productive citizens in our society is still a priority for our community.

Everything is bigger in Texas!! This is a high school. Wow! I was blown away by McKinney ISD and their amazing people. I was honored to speak at their school year kick off convocation and gave them FUEL for their school year. And the best part is they are certifying all their leaders in our Positive Leadership program. It was one of my favorite speaking experiences ever and I appreciate all the positive energy from all the great principals, teachers and support staff. The best is yet to come!

McKinney ISD is proud to announce the certification of both district and campus leaders in Jon Gordon’s renowned Power of Positive Leadership program. This initiative reflects Superintendent Pratt's commitment to fostering a culture of positivity, resilience, success across all levels in our organization, and leadership development and growth for all. The Power of Positive Leadership program, developed by best-selling author and motivational speaker Jon Gordon, equips leaders with the tools and strategies needed to inspire and empower their teams. The program emphasizes the importance of positive leadership in driving performance, enhancing employee engagement, and achieving organizational goals. “Our leaders are instrumental in our district’s success; they are working with our students, staff, and community each day,” said Shawn Pratt, McKinney ISD Superintendent. “By investing in their development, we are reinforcing our dedication to cultivating a supportive and thriving work environment. Positive leadership is not just a philosophy for us; it’s a strategic advantage.” The certification program included comprehensive training sessions focused on core principles of positive leadership, such as building trust, fostering positive relationships, and creating a vision that motivates and unites teams. Participants also engaged in interactive workshops and real-world applications designed to translate these principles into actionable strategies. Leaders who completed the certification reported significant improvements in their leadership approach, school culture, and team dynamics. Both district and campus leaders are continuing to implement this work within the teams they currently serve and lead. McKinney ISD is committed to continuous growth and improvement and recognizes the pivotal role of leadership in achieving these objectives. This certification marks a significant milestone in our ongoing journey to empower our leaders with the skills and mindset necessary to drive positive change and innovation. #wearemckinney #TeamMcKinney

We’re proud to be named an Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll district, which recognizes high-performing, achievement gap-closing schools across the nation. The Educational Results Partnership Honor Roll, sponsored by the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence and presented with the Texas Business Leadership Council is the only school district award given in collaboration with state and local business leaders. The Honor Roll is a valuable resource for all districts to identify successful peers and learn about best practices that are improving student achievement. Congratulations to five of our schools who made the School Honor Roll list: Evans MS, Faubion MS, Scott Johnson MS, Slaughter Elementary and McGowen Elementary. For more info on @edresults and the ERP Honor Roll program, visit: www.edresults.org.

The future of our young people is bright! Amazing day yesterday capping off Camp Future - we were honored to help sponsor this program equipping students at McKinney High School with skills and training coding and computer science. Michael Kowski shared the vision of the growth and innovation in McKinney, before groups of students presented slide decks of their projects and ideas to parents and their peers. Props to Joshua Berry at Briidge The Gap for putting together a powerful program - the pipeline to future Innovation Fund companies is STRONG!
