Congratulations to Matt East, PhD for receiving the 2023 Best Paper Award in Structural Hazards from the #ASCE Journal of Structural Engineering! 🎉 Each year, only three papers are selected for this prestigious award across the categories of Analysis & Computation, Materials & Structural Response, and Structural Hazards. His award-winning paper, "Development of Controlled Rocking Masonry Walls with Energy Dissipation Accessible in a Steel Base," explores the #seismic performance of a new masonry wall system designed to enhance resilience during earthquakes. The system includes energy dissipation devices that are easy to access and replace, enabling quicker recovery after seismic events while minimizing structural damage. Published in 2023, this groundbreaking research paves the way for more resilient masonry #construction. Congratulations, Matt!

🏈 As the Baltimore Ravens continue to dominate the season on the field, McLaren Engineering Group is playing a key role in supporting their off-field efforts through community investments like the redevelopment of the Hilton Recreation Center. Located in West #Baltimore, the community-focused redevelopment will provide 35,000 square feet of enhanced recreational space for local youth. Funded by the Baltimore Ravens, the Torrey Smith Family Fund, and the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, this project will include a multi-use athletic field, new playgrounds, and an expanded community center building featuring a basketball court, classrooms, and other multipurpose spaces. McLaren provided structural #engineering, construction phase services, and surveying for this impactful project. Our work includes supporting architectural designs like the gym roof structure, foundations for light poles, football goal posts, and outdoor bleachers, as well as site planning and parking ingress/egress analysis. This redevelopment will serve as a #community hub for recreation and education, creating a positive space for West Baltimore’s youth.  - - Photo credit Design Collective, Inc.

#Construction is nearing completion on the highly anticipated Water Street parking garage in Binghamton, NY, a $25 million project set to revitalize downtown with a modern mixed-use facility. The new structure will replace an older parking garage with a 5-story parking deck topped by five additional floors of residential apartments, creating a dynamic space for both commuters and residents. A key feature is the transfer level above the parking structure, designed to support the load of the residential floors. McLaren Engineering Group is playing a pivotal role in this transformation, providing expert structural and geotechnical #engineering services, along with specialized parking consulting for the garage's design and foundation. McLaren engineers analyzed alternative framing plans for the structural steel framing of the garage, which included horizontal framing, columns, and bearing walls. As parking consultants, McLaren helped refine the garage design to meet both functional and regulatory requirements, while also assisting with the development of the curtain wall and façade system and assessing construction materials. Additionally, McLaren's team is ensuring efficient reuse of the existing pile foundations, where possible, to optimize cost, #sustainability, and environmental impact.
