Our #Entertainment Engineering team has done it again! Their most recent feat brought Steve McQueen’s latest exhibition to life in a collaboration with Sapsis Rigging Inc. Located at Dia Chelsea in NYC, our team designed the structural framework for the exhibit, including a 23ft tall by 60ft wide freestanding goalpost truss structure to support large LED screens that were integral to McQueen’s #showcase. With precise surveying and engineering, our team creatively threaded the top of the truss structure through the facility’s wooden x-braces without touching or hanging from them – ensuring stability while preserving the integrity of the space. This innovative approach resulted in a perfect balance of art and engineering, with McQueen’s vision shining through. A special thank you to Sapsis Rigging for their top tier #installation work – the final result is a true masterpiece!

Mercy University’s Westchester Campus in Dobbs Ferry, NY recently underwent a remarkable transformation, redesigning and enhancing its main entrance on NYS Route 9. The renovation, aimed at fostering a stronger sense of community on campus, includes a redesigned entrance, an open-air pavilion, and a pollinator garden. As part of the main entrance redesign, McLaren provided #CivilEngineering services adhering to the University’s commitment to #sustainability. These services included a new signalized intersection with a dedicated turn lane, #stormwater treatment features, the development of a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), utility relocations, and close coordination with the NYSDOT. McLaren also conducted State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) inspections for the pavilion, cross walk, and parking lot as part of our construction support services. This fall, the campus has a fresh new appearance to greet the newest class of students – go Mavs!

Exciting things happening at the Majestic Theater in NYC! McLaren engineers Nadia Itani, E.I.T. and Ryan Rivet-Frame, P.E. recently attended a special luncheon marking the first time the theater opened its doors to a large group since its renovation. The Majestic, a #Broadway icon, has undergone significant updates, and those involved in the project were invited to celebrate this milestone. McLaren's entertainment engineering team provided services for the #restoration and revitalization of the #theater following the 35-year run of Phantom of the Opera, and will continue to support the Majestic Theater by providing engineering services for the upcoming production of Gypsy. Key structural work involved assessing the grid's load capacity, installing custom platforms as permanent venue features, updating rigging systems, and implementing OSHA-compliant access and general accessibility improvements. Additional upgrades included alterations to the marquee, new signage along 44th Street with LED displays, and the refurbishment of the iconic blade sign. Following its grand reopening on September 9th, the Majestic Theater’s new look is now open to the public! Be sure to check it out in Manhattan's iconic Theater District for the upcoming presentation of Gypsy.

Italy’s eVenti Verticali took to the skies at Providence, Rhode Island’s iconic outdoor arts #festival, PVDFest, in a breathtaking aerial spectacle. Hosted by the City’s Department of Art, Culture & Tourism in collaboration with FirstWorks, the event featured a mesmerizing performance on and around a massive inflatable sphere, suspended by a crane high above Kennedy Plaza. Seven aerialists defied gravity as they spun, twisted, and floated through the air utilizing ropes and aerial rings—one perched atop the sphere, another hanging below, one inside, and four others suspended from a cross-shaped truss structure. The performance was conducted over 20’ feet above the ground and the apparatus also rotated while performers enthralled audiences from above. McLaren conducted a full #StructuralAnalysis of the aerial apparatus up to the crane hook, evaluating the structure for conformance to performer flying standards. All structural and #rigging components below the hook were evaluated.

Creating the perfect runway experience for NYC #Fashion Week requires precise engineering behind the scenes, and McLaren’s Entertainment and Marine Engineering teams were integral to bringing the vision to life for some of the industry's biggest names. This season, we provided custom structural engineering solutions for a range of high-profile events, transforming both indoor and outdoor spaces around #NYC into unforgettable fashion venues. From ground-supported truss systems for lighting, sound, and false ceilings at Tory Burch, Khaite, and various luxury fashion brands, to an outdoor LED screen setup for various designers at Rockefeller Center, each show required specialized rigging, temporary structures, and detailed calculations by our #Entertainment Engineering team to ensure a flawless and creative execution. Our Marine Engineering team also supported Tommy Hilfiger at Pier 17, performing a temporary mooring analysis for the Staten Island ferry to ensure safe anchorage and hardware support for the show’s unique venue.

🐘 The Great Elephant Migration has arrived in #NYC! This captivating art installation features life-sized Indian elephant sculptures, each representing a unique animal from Southern India. The project not only combines #art and #engineering, but also supports global conservation efforts. Each sculpture represents the vast space and freedom real elephants need to thrive in the wild, bringing attention to the pressing need for habitat preservation and global conservation efforts. Our Entertainment Engineering team played a key role in making this installation possible by providing stability analysis and generating feasible base anchorage options needed to secure the elephants in various environments from the cliffs of Newport, RI to the busy streets of Manhattan, NY. Catch the herd in the Meatpacking District through October 20th before they continue their journey across the U.S.! #sculpture
