Meet the Residents! Join us in welcoming our new Graduate Medical Education residents to McLaren Port Huron. This week, meet Dr. Kairavi Shah – Internal Medicine: Originally from India, I completed my medical school in Ahmedabad. Another city that holds a special place in my heart is Stuart in Florida, where my family resides. When I'm not immersed in evidence-based medicine or dreaming of a cardiology fellowship you'll find me on the badminton court or dancing to good beats and adding color to canvases. Living by the serene waters of Port Huron will add a perfect touch of calm to my vibrant life. I'm excited to bring this energy to our close-knit residency program. Dr. Shah is located in the McLaren Port Huron Academic Center for Internal Medicine (1216 Richardson Street, 810-985-2640).

Congratulations Cassie MacCullum, our Employee of the Month: Cassie MacCullum, a cardiovascular tech in the Cath Lab, was nominated by colleagues who noted that there are "a million reasons" she could be Employee of the Month, from creating a positive environment, running the charge phone with poise. Some of the comments they shared: * Her integrity and work ethic are an absolute asset to what we do in the Cardiovascular Lab. * The level of care she inspires us to provide through her selflessness and compassion is invaluable. * She's the "self-appointed cruise director" who plans special events for the team. * Her positive attitude and infectious smile set the tone for the day. * She is well respected by her peers and physicians and is a go-to person for anyone in need of help. Thank you, Cassie!

This week, meet Dr. Gagandeep Sawana – Internal Medicine: My hometown is Brampton, Ontario. I went to the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Saint Kitts for medical school. I am very excited to join McLaren’s Port Huron Internal Medicine residency program. Although I see myself practicing as a hospitalist in the future, I would like to keep my options open for subspecialty training as well. I love traveling and exploring new places, especially through road trips. My dream destination is Japan because I find Japanese people and their culture very fascinating. Dr. Sawana is located in the McLaren Port Huron Academic Center for Internal Medicine (1216 Richardson Street, 810-985-2640).

We're so proud of Melissa, a nurse on the Behavioral Health Unit -- she received the Michigan Health & Hospital Association's quarterly Speak-up! Award that recognizes health care team members who promote a healthy patient safety culture in their organizations. Melissa was nominated by colleagues for having the courage to speak up in a clinical situation that resulted in a patient receiving critical care they needed. Melissa was honored during a presentation at the hospital with representatives from the MHA, including CEO Brian Peters (right) and Sarah Scranton (left), VP Safety & Quality at the MHA. Congrats Melissa! We're so proud to have you on the team!!
