On Wednesday Hampton University’s Entrepreneurial program partnered with the Kapex Foundation to host an entrepreneurial panel and a “Pirate Tank” pitch competition. Five current students pitched their existing business or a new concept to expert judges for a chance to win $5,000. I was honored to return to my home by the sea and participate as an expert panelist and a “Pirate Tank” judge. Sharing my entrepreneurial journey with the students and current professors was so rewarding. These students were thoughtful, resourceful, innovative and many of them were already running their own businesses and Hampton students were clients. I was impressed. Being able to offer sound perspectives and advice to all the students but ESPECIALLY the artistic and creative concepts pitched to us was particularly gratifying. Really it was a full circle moment…most of my classmates remember me being all about and into the arts back in college/shoot even now. Often times it’s difficult for students and parents to believe that running a creative business or a business that supports the arts & entertainment sector is viable or lucrative. Well…it can be and as McNeil Creative Enterprises turns 8 next week…I look forward to celebrating the journey with family, friends, and colleagues. Keep an eye out for more details-we will celebrate in June! I’m happy to report that each expert judge gladly offered to provide ongoing support after the competition to the students. Watch out world these young people have clear visions…I cannot wait to see them unfold! I’m grateful for the opportunity to share.🙏🏾🙌🏾⚓️💙🩶 Thank you to my fellow Hamptonian, Marc Alexander, for the opportunity! 📸: Marc Alexander
In today's Black history moment...MCE celebrates the Black Arts Movement (BAM). BAM was a cultural and artistic movement that emerged in the 1960s, primarily among Black artists. It aimed to celebrate and explore the Black experience, foster pride in African heritage, and challenge societal norms through various artistic expressions, including literature, music, visual arts, and theater. Influential figures associated with the movement include Amiri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez, and Nikki Giovanni. The values of the Black Arts Movement were collectively aimed to reshape cultural narratives, challenge systemic inequalities, and contribute to the broader social and political movements of the time. At MCE, we stand on the shoulders of those that came before us. We work diligently to reshape the narratives and dismantle the systemic inequalities that impact historically excluded artists and arts organizations in our sector. To the leaders of the Black Arts Movement...we are because you were...in service and gratitude. #blackhistory #blackhistorymonth #mcearts #blackhistorymoments #blackartsmovement #mce #womenownedbusiness #bawsewomen #arts #artsleaders #equity #equality #influential
In today's Black history moment... MCE celebrates the International Association of Blacks in Dance (IABD). For over 30 years, IABD has preserved and promoted dance by people of African ancestry or origin. IABD has been a reoccuring client of MCE since 2016. Over the years, IABD has hired MCE to support them with strategic guidance, data visualization and documenting impact. We've enjoyed witnessing how our support has contributed to their increased opportunites. In 2023, IABD received the National Medal of Arts from President Biden. The National Medal of Arts is the highest award given in the nation to artists and arts patrons. Congratulations again IABD! #mcearts #blackhistorymoments #dance #blackarts #blackdance #fierce #awards #blacksindance #strategy #guidance #support https://lnkd.in/eDuQfWEq
