🌞 Exciting Developments in Solar Energy! Prof. Eicke R. Weber , co-founder of MCPV attended the 4th Multi Terawatt Workshop (TW4) June 6-8 in the Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove, California. ⚡️Prof. Weber invited in 2016 eminent solar researchers to the first Terawatt workshop in Freiburg. 📝At the meeting in Asilomar it was pointed out that the actual development of global PV deployment since 2016 exceeded even the most optimistic scenario prepared at that time. 1 TW deployment was achieved in March 2022, ahead even of the most optimistic forecasts from 2016 expectations. The prediction of a total deployment of about 75 Terawatt in 2040-2050, to be achieved by a market of annually 3 TW and more after 2030, is still valid. At this last workshop many details concerning PV deployment, accompanied by large energy storage capacities, were discussed. TW4 Solar contributions to the PV industry are in line with global carbon management and carbon neutrality strategies, it is making significant strides ensuring that solar energy continues to play a pivotal role in global energy solutions. Join us on this exciting journey as we work together towards advancing solar manufacturing chains towards brighter and cleaner future! #SolarEnergy #PVIndustry #TWsolar #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability Get in touch with us to learn more about our initiatives and how we are driving innovation in the solar energy sector!

🔓 Yesterday, the ETIP PV - The European Technology & Innovation Platform for Photovoltaics secretariat, represented by Hanna Dittmar, participated in the #SET PLAN – Cooperation across SET Plan Implementation Working Groups (IWGs) Workshop.   On behalf of the European Technology and Innovation Platforms, ETIP Forum delivered three key messages on how to strengthen cooperation between ETIPs and affiliated entities to the IWGs.   1️⃣  IWG should define the R&I activities that wills support the implementation for the recent EU policy developments including the #NetZeroIndustryAct, the EU critical Raw materials Act and the EU Grid Action Plan.   2️⃣ The ETIPS would call for a more extensive representation of the Member States in the IWGs to also increase the geographical coverage and increasing consequently the legitimacy of the common messages sent and the R&I prioritisation.   3️⃣ Industrial growth goes hand in hand with the R&I growth, therefore a more industrial perspective also focused on the manufacturing together with development of matching R&I priorities at member state level is strongly encouraged.

Yesterday marked a significant step on the path to a robust and dynamic European PV manufacturing industry. ☀ With the signing of the #EuropeanSolarCharter, policymakers, manufacturers, and off-takers are setting the stage for a period of fast and sustainable growth in European solar manufacturing. 🆕 With the start of the implementation of the policy frameworks underlying the ESC, a level playing field will evolve allowing a new generation EU PV industry to emerge. 🇳🇱 The Netherlands has taken a head start in this effort, with SolarNL , a solar industry consortium programme backed by €412m State support. 🚀 MCPV is proud to work side by side with its SolarNL partners and other EU industry pioneers moving from the drawing board to implementation. It is eagerly working towards the delivery of its first "Made in Europe" heterojunction cells and modules in 2026. 🤝 By forging strategic relationships across the European value chain, we will jointly work towards the goal of (at least) 30GW of sustainable, competitive, high efficiency, PV manufacturing capacity by 2030. #energysecurity #solarmanufacturing #NZIA European Solar Manufacturing Council (ESMC) SolarPower Europe

The Netherlands wants to become independent. No, not from Europe, but from China. Dutch #PVproduction is to be expanded. To this end, the government and #PVindustry have launched the SolarNL program, in which the National Growth Fund is contributing 312 million euros. After all, the Netherlands wants to be climate-neutral in just over 25 years. And one of the key technologies on the way there is #photovoltaics. #solarenergy #pv #photovoltaics #solar #renewableenergies  HyET Solar Netherlands B.V., Compoform B.V., Energyra Europe, Exasun, IM Efficiency, MCPV, Solarge, Taylor Research Inc., Universiteit van Amsterdam, Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology, University of Groningen, University of Twente, Utrecht University - Faculty of Humanities https://lnkd.in/e9Mbdx3A

In a unified effort, led by the European Solar Manufacturing Council (ESMC), 37 European PV manufacturers are urging European Union Member States to swiftly implement a robust regulation combatting forced labour. The plea comes as crucial negotiations on the prohibition of products made with forced labour are approaching, addressing critical details such as general rules, implementation timelines, and role responsibilities. Emphasizing that forced labour products have no place in the European market, the PV manufacturers outline key priorities for the forced labour regulation: 1. Shift the burden of proof to companies in cases of alleged forced labour. 2. Support the proposal from the European Parliament on giving the European Commission similar mandate as “competent authorities". 3. Expedite Implementation. 4. Avoid recognizing unproven industry schemes. 5. Recognize that disengagement is the only option in cases of state-sponsored forced labour. Read more here:

At this make or break moment for Europe’s energy security, crucial to its (immediate) future economic stability, the importance of swiftly establishing a solar industry at scale, as part of a broader net zero industry push, cannot be underestimated. The European Solar Manufacturing Council (ESMC) has seen a stellar growth reflecting the continued strength of Europe’s solar technology value chain and the readiness of its companies and research centers to implement an industrial strategy based on next generation technology and achieving critical mass to reach global competitiveness within a matter of years. It is with European policymakers that the ESMC is working to ensure the appropriate support and level playing field is established for the European solar industry to flourish. And it is with the European IPPs, EPCs and offtakers, jointly with SolarPower Europe that the ESMC must find a common set of rules to ensure that the costs and benefits of energy security, supply chain certainty, and the opportunities of the energy transition are not only fairly shared, but also achieved. These goals need to be reached in record time (since the world is not waiting for Europe), and major milestones by ESMC and the broader solar sector have already been achieved. But there is a fundamental need to get to the finish line in the next few months, to ensure that Europe’s Net Zero Industries, including solar, can deliver the clean energy industrial strategy that the Old Continent cannot do without. Congratulations for the achievements to date to the European Solar Manufacturing Council (ESMC) and all solar sector advocates and policymakers. We look forward to work with you over the coming days, weeks and months on Europe’s fundamental clean energy future! #solarmanufacturing #NZIA #TCTF SolarNL MCPV Johan Lindahl Zygimantas Vaiciunas Walburga Hemetsberger Jochen Hauff

It is with a sigh of relief that we share that the European Parliament has endorsed the European PV Industry’s stance on the Net Zero Industry Act. Today, the European Parliament adopted the position on the EU #NZIA aligning perfectly with the industry letter, signed by 42 European PV manufacturers, that we shared with the Members of European Parliament last week. The improvements include increasing the weight of sustainability and resilience contributions and expanding the cost difference. The European Solar Manufacturing Council (ESMC) congratulates the inclusion of pre-qualification criteria for public procurements and auctions — ensuring no more than 50% of the net-zero technology part of the tender shall originate from third countries that are not signatories of the World Trade Organization Agreement on Government Procurement (GPA), practically meaning the reduced import from China after the implementation of the #NZIA. As emphasized in the letter, “Clean energy, climate mitigation, and resilience are not just buzzwords; they are the cornerstones upon which our sustainable future is built. It is now our turn to rise to the occasion and set the stage for a European renaissance in clean manufacturing and sustainable investments.” Today's vote marks a crucial step toward fostering that and ESMC, as an association of European PV manufacturers, is looking forward to see the key cornerstones; 1) pre-qualification criteria and 2) sustainability and resilience contributions successfully enforced during the interinstitutional negotiations!
