There are three core ways of running usability tests: lab-based moderated, remote moderated, and remote unmoderated., each with its own strengths and weaknesses. No one method is always best. A combination of methods provides a more comprehensive picture of the user experience. #ux #uxresearch #userexperience #userresearch #uxr

Means and top box scores can both be helpful in UX research because they answer different questions. Measurements of extreme responses tend to be better predictors of future behavior than average or more tepid respondents, so we prefer top to top-two box measurements. #ux #userexperience #uxresearch #uxr #userresearch

Does the NPS Properly Measure Recommending Against a Brand? Is not recommending the same as recommending against? It is important for companies to track negative word of mouth, so we reviewed data in the relevant literature to understand whether the Net Promoter Score adequately measures recommendation against the company. #ux #userexperience #nps #uxresearch #userresearch #uxr

MaxDiff (a type of adaptive conjoint methodology) is used to rank the importance of product features by iteratively presenting a subset of the features in a special item format where participants select the options that are most and least important. MaxDiff requires specialized software, such as our MUiQ platform, to present the combinations and calculate ranks and scores. #ux #userexperience #uxr #userresearch #uxresearch

In this article, we describe how an exploratory development of a standardized clutter questionnaire for websites produced an efficient two-factor instrument with excellent psychometric properties. Using multiple regression, we streamlined a website clutter questionnaire from 16 to five items (two measuring content clutter and three measuring design clutter). This resulted in a new standardized questionnaire for the perceived clutter of websites that measures two factors – content clutter and design clutter – plus an overall assessment of perceived clutter. #ux #uxr #userexperience #uxresearch #userresearch

It's generally better to write with active voice because passive voice requires more effort for readers to understand. There are some social contexts in which passive voice is the better choice, but not when crafting survey questions. #ux #uxr #userexperience #survey #uxresearch

When analyzing SUS scores, is it better to compute the mean or the median? Our analysis of over 18,000 individual SUS scores from studies of over 200 products and services revealed the typical difference between SUS means and medians was about two points (medians a bit higher). #ux #uxr #uxresearch #userexperience #userresearch
