The Office of Management and Budget was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for their hard work on the fiscal year budget. They've been getting this award for the last 35 years -- yes, 35! Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) recognizes government that works to advance excellence in finance. The County received special recognition for the budget process and for strategic goals and strategies: https://meck.co/4eX4JwH “Every year presents new challenges, and achieving the award takes tremendous effort from our team and our leadership, plus contributions from the Finance Department, Office of Strategic Planning and Evaluation and staff across the government who help develop our spending plan," said Adrian Cox, Mecklenburg County budget director. 📸 : Cox presenting details of the 2024 recommended budget to the Board of County Commissioners

Celebrations are in order for our Park and Recreation department! 🎉 The Board of County Commissioners recognized them for major achievements. First, Park and Recreation took home the Carolina Public Sector Star Award for the fifth time since 2008! The Star Program recognizes employers and employees that work together to reduce injuries and illnesses in the workplace. N.C. Commissioner of Labor Josh Dobson joined the Board to present the award and recognize the department for their commitment to workplace safety. It doesn’t stop there! They also earned their national reaccreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies for another five years, maintaining their high standards since 2009. WAIT -- there's another one. They received an Impact Award from the Great Trails State Coalition for Little Sugar Creek Greenway! Big CONGRATULATIONS to this team!

Thank you to the many staff who are helping our residents near Mountain Island Lake recover from Hurricane Helene. The coordinated response led by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management includes: - 200 building inspections by Storm Water Services staff. - More than 100 tons of tree debris collected by Solid Waste, Storm Water and Park & Recreation. - Code Enforcement estimates 84 properties were impacted. They're working with those homeowners on permitting. - Geospatial Information Services provided maps and damage reports that guided staff and helped with requesting federal disaster assistance. Several County recreation and nature centers will collect donations for those recovering from Helene in N.C. through Nov. 1: https://meck.co/40dykNI
