Medex Video Authentication Platform
Digital Forensics Software
Medex offers law enforcement professionals, journalists, lawyers, forensic examiners, and intelligence analysts a first-ever forensic toolset to automatically inspect a video file, identify the camera that created it, identify any software that was used to edit it, and report modifications that were made to the file. Our users in federal, state, county, and private agencies are already employing Medex to solve child exploitation video production cases, to validate body worn camera video for court, and to disprove disinformation videos. Medex’s strengths lay in its speed, ease-of-use, potential for investigative leads, and ability to identify modification and validation errors in video files. It is a SaaS solution that is low overhead and commitment for organizations to license and try the technology themselves.

What goes into the development of the 80,000+ file Medex Reference Library? Building the largest collection of known video encoding for forensic analysis is no small task. Due to the nature of forensic casework, minute details of recorder and app settings must be documented and accounted for. Our research analysts build test plans and then painstakingly identify, account for, and log all variables when creating exemplar files. This work often results in dozens of files being created when studying a single camera or app. This hard work allows Medex to identify the source and generational history of video files in ways no other approach can. Our analysts also monitor file signatures within the Medex Video Authentication Platform to target new research for reference library development. As a result of these efforts, over 2,000 file submissions had updated results in September alone! A full listing of all devices and generations with the Medex Reference Library is available within the Medex Video Authentication Platform. Do you know of a device or app that should be added to the Medex Reference Library? Please let us know at support@medexforensics.com or in the comments below.
