Labor Day was first observed in the late 19th century by the labor movement to acknowledge the significant contributions workers made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being. The first Labor Day was on Tuesday, September 5th, 1882, and the second was a Wednesday. Twelve years after its beginning, on June 28th, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a law establishing Labor Day as a national holiday to be observed on the first Monday in September. As such, MedWatch’s offices will be closed on Monday, September 2nd in honor of all laborers who have, and continue to, contribute to the success of our great nation.
