Co-founder, HOUSE OF DIGBY & digby | Co-host, Barriers to Entry podcast || Building things at the intersection of technology and tradition

I love it when worlds collide. This week on another episode of Barriers to Entry recorded live at NeoCon in June, Bobby Bonett and I welcomed Annie Ming from HBF and Cosmo Kramer from Bitreel for a conversation about a project that digby has been a key part of bringing to life. The episode focuses on the launch of HBF's new Firma table collection and the role that Bitreel's 3D visualization software has played in bringing it to life. Tune in to for a deep dive into the journey of how we worked to introduce and hopefully endear a product to its core audiences of designers and sales reps. Stick around for the standard dad jokes from this dad-to-be and of course a word or two on the state of ‘the metaverse’ in the worlds of furniture and design. To kick off the Olympics, we're re-sharing an incredible conversation on the Barriers to Entry podcast with the designer of the torch for the Paris games. We hope you'll give it a listen before you enjoy today's Opening Ceremonies.

I've always loved the Olympics. So when we had the opportunity on the Barriers to Entry podcast to sit down with the man who had the honour of designing the actual Olympic torch and cauldron, it was one of the greatest thrills I've had since Bobby Bonett, Tessa Bain and I first pressed record on our first episode on the SURROUND Podcast Network. With the Opening Ceremonies kicking off this afternoon in Paris along the Seine River this afternoon (the first time the Opening Ceremonies have ever been held outside of a Stadium) I needed to re-listen and re-share this incredible conversation with MAISON&OBJET Designer of the Year and proud Frenchman, Matheiu Lehanneur. I hope you'll give it a listen and be inspired by the mind of an incredible designer. I hope you watch the Opening Ceremonies and enjoy it with a new appreciation. But mostly, I hope you spend the next two weeks cheering on your nation and all of the new heroes who are sure to emerge through one of the greatest events, not just in sport, but in the world at large. Our co-founder Andrew Lane had the opportunity to visit Sphere and share some thoughts from the experience. #immersiveexperiences #sphere #design

It's an impressive thing when you can enjoy an 'immersive' experience that isn't also somewhat isolating. Just past the peak of the hype cycle for the Apple Vision Pro, I recently had the opportunity while at KBIS in Las Vegas to experience Sphere. While Bono and U2 were nowhere to be found, Bobby Bonett and I had the pleasure of being immersed in Darren Aronofsky's film, shot specifically for the venue, "Postcard from Earth". After some reflection, aside from the pure spectacle of the structure and how it's able to take the familiar IMAX experience to another level entirely, it was the way that this 'immersion' was at once personal and communal that has stuck with me the most. Sphere delivers the best of a movie-going audience experience, and takes it further by bringing you into the experience in a way no traditional theatre can. The combination of the screen, the sound, and the haptics of the threatre mean that everyone in attendance was able to have a unique, immersed experience, together. I'm sure that the Rattle and Hum of a live concert would deliver a similar if not superior thrill. At digby we speak often about 'people-powered innovation', and Sphere has delivered just that. With social media increasingly isolating us, it's exciting to consider the prospects for more experiences like Sphere that can excite and engage us, while still bringing us together. I'm looking forward to speaking more on this on an upcoming episode of our Barriers to Entry podcast and following great discussions with builders in this space like Sarah DiLeo and David Schwarz. In the meantime, special thanks to Kelly K. for the insider tip on the best seats in the house, and to Bobby for being such a gentleman on our night out and picking the restaurant.

Weekend reading! Our co-founder Andrew Lane had the opportunity to share the stories of some exciting firms leveraging #artificialintelligence in the #architecture and #design industry in a special feature for the latest issue of Metropolis Magazine. Our founder Federico Negro was featured in the Spring Issue of Metropolis Magazine! Spring Issue: Testing the Limits, New Approaches and Technologies. “Architecture and design’s early forays into artificial intelligence (AI) were mostly confined to image generation and visualization, but in the past couple year A&D tech insiders have blown the lid off. Andrew Lane takes us behind the scenes at three revolutionary tech platforms (Baya, Hypar and Canoa) that seek to transform design workflows. But he warns firms to stop “looking at AI only in terms of how it can evolve their design work and creative processes.” Instead, firms should also explore tools that will let them streamline business processes across areas like marketing, operations, HR, and finance. It’s those who are looking at AI holistically as a business co-pilot who will empower their employees to build new skills, automate tedious tasks, liberate their own capacity and, as a result, raise the floor for the entire organization.” Read it here→ https://lnkd.in/gF6Zbes2

I'm headed to KBIS in Vegas this week to explore how #artificialintelligence is already changing the game for businesses across the design industry. Excited to moderate a great conversation with Jenna Gaidusek, William Zhang and Morgan Molitor with huge thanks to Leanne Wood and the team at FLYING CAMEL :: ADVERTISING · DESIGN · PR for bringing us together and to Emtek Products for sponsoring. If you're at the show, come see us Wednesday at 2pm on the KBIS NEXT Stage and be sure to bring your questions for a very interactive conversation (DM me in advance and I'll see if I can sneak your question in). Looking forward to seeing everyone and talking AI in Vegas 🤖🎲

I'm speaking at KBIS 2024! Join me, February 27-29, in Las Vegas!
