For Rocio, Hispanic Heritage Month serves as a positive reminder to chase her goals and to celebrate the diversity within her community.
“[To me], being Hispanic has taught me to be strong, support others, and to not shy away from opportunities even if they are outside of your comfort zone,” she says. “This has helped me grow professionally and strive for more.”
That’s why she’s member of the Hispanic/Latin American Organizational Leadership and Advancement Employee Resource Group at Memorial Hermann, which can help to expand opportunities for education, mentorship and leadership opportunities for Hispanic employees while fostering appreciation for diversity.
“As a Hispanic person, I learned about the many cultural differences in my own community,” she says. “We have all embraced one another and we are still part of the same culture. I believe this mindset can be applied to our larger community to embrace and appreciate everyone’s differences. This creates a safe space for our patients and employees, allowing everyone to have a positive experience."
