Meaningful Experiences & Relationships through Community Inclusion
About us
MERCI's unwavering mission is to enhance the lives of adults with developmental disabilities by creating meaningful experiences and fostering connections through community inclusion. The organization's roots trace back to 1955 when a passionate group of parents and service clubs united to address the critical shortage of educational resources for their adult children. Throughout its journey, MERCI has remained committed to serving a vulnerable and often overlooked population. MERCI provides home and community-based services throughout 19 cities in Los Angeles County. MERCI operates two residential homes in Monterey Park, each designed to accommodate six residents. Additionally, MERCI offers three distinct programs, carefully customized to suit individuals of all abilities. Integrated Community-Based Supports (ICBS): *ICBS services are designed to take place within the community. *Participants collaborate with our staff to find success in volunteer and vocational opportunities, enabling them to become valued contributors to their communities. Person-Centered Activities through Supportive Services (PASS) Services: *Delivered on-site at our school in Monterey Park, running from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. *Extended services are also available before and after MERCI's PASS program if needed. *MERCI focuses on nurturing participants' independent living skills and leisure activities while integrating them into community events when possible. Discovery: *Designed for individuals with more substantial medical needs who are unable to attend the PASS or ICBS services. *Services are provided within the individuals' homes, with a continued focus on developing independent living skills, enjoying leisure activities, and ensuring access to community resources.

💪✨ This is How MERCI Does it! ✨💪 Our residents are all about staying active and healthy, and we're so proud to see their dedication to wellness. 🏋️♀️🤸♂️ Did you know that regular exercise can improve both physical and mental health for individuals with developmental disabilities? According to research, engaging in regular physical activity can decrease depression by 30% and improve cognitive functioning and brain health! 🌟 A huge shoutout to The Beth & Wilbur Woo Foundation and Rene Araiza, one of our incredible board of directors, for their generous donations that make this possible. Your support truly makes wellness a priority for our community! 🙏❤️ #WellnessJourney #ActiveLiving #CommunitySupport #MerciFamily #Gratitude #HealthAndWellness #InclusionMatters

🌱✨ MERCI's Unity Garden Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony was an unforgettable celebration of community and inclusivity! 🌿🌻 Our Unity Gardens bring together residents and participants with developmental disabilities, fostering togetherness and promoting emotional and mental well-being, independence skills, and community participation. 🤝💚 We were honored to have distinguished guests including Honorable Mike Eng, Mayor of #MontereyPark Thomas Wong, City of Monterey Park Councilman Henry Lo, and Monterey Park Fire Chief Chris Thompson join us for this momentous occasion. 🎉 Special recognition was given to our major donors from the Cathay Bank Foundation, the Beth and Wilbur Woo Foundation and Christina and Angelo Devito for their unwavering support. The event was made even more special with the participation of students from Happy Day Preschool, who painted rocks alongside our MERCI participants and residents, spreading joy and creativity throughout the garden. 🎨💫 We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire community for their overwhelming support, and we are especially thankful for our partnership with #FoodExplorationandDiscovery, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating communal gardening spaces that foster education and inclusivity. We also want to express our sincere thanks to Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers for generously sponsoring the event! Together, with partners like you, we are cultivating a brighter, more inclusive future for all! 🌟 #MERCIUnityGarden #CommunityInclusion #GardeningForGood #ThankYouCommunity 🙏🌷

Meet Agustin, a shining example of determination and strength in our MERCI family 💪💖. Agustin has a long history with MERCI. From starting with what is now known as our PASS program, evolving with DISCOVERY, and now thriving at the John and Mary Duce Centre, his journey with us is a testament to courage and resilience. Living with Cerebral Palsy doesn't hold him back; it fuels his advocacy, empowering both himself and his peers. With his ECO Device, Agustin ensures his voice and the voices of others are heard, shaping a more inclusive and understanding world 🌍✨. #StrengthInVoice #MERCIJourney #AdvocateForChange #DevelopmentalDisabilityAwareness Visit our website to see more incredible stories of resilience and determination, and consider making a donation to help us continue this vital work.
