I tend to keep my head down and focus on doing the actual work that will help propel AI forward but I’ve heard some things last few weeks that got me thinking. And while I don’t know where this will all go (anyone who thinks they can predict the direction of a once in a lifetime technology is at best, guessing), here are a few things I *do* know: 📌 AI is not a zero sum game. The power of open source is that it is a fluid process of rapid iteration and collective advancement. We learn from each other and the collective work feeds off itself – that is how this all works. We have learned so much already that we are applying to the development of Llama 4 which will be omni-model, focused on agentic capabilities and much more. I will begin sharing more on learnings that guided how we built Llama 4 and I am confident the models will speak for themselves – so stay tuned, more coming soon. 📌 The more people who have access to AI, the quicker & more effectively we can solve problems around the world. In the early days when we were discussing whether Llama should be open source, I knew that the only way to meaningfully advance AI was by opening it up. It is naive to think one company or closed system can accelerate the pace of innovation faster than an entire community. I believe everyone in the industry will be playing their best games if we push each other as hard as possible every single day. 📌 US companies must push for greater collaboration and transparency. Open source has proven to be the approach that will drive the most rapid rate of innovation but now it is about building with integrity and transparency. Meta has been the clear leader in this space and our conviction in transparent, responsible, and collaborative open source AI is unwavering. 📌 📣 Llama models have been downloaded more than 800 million times around the world.🚀 In barely 2 years, the Meta GenAI team built open source models that have transformed the industry. We took a big bet and created an entire ecosystem in which innovation is advancing at the most rapid pace we’ve ever seen around the world. On a personal note, I am so proud of my GenAI org. In barely 24 months, we have transformed the industry – over 800 million times 🙂 To everyone reading this, I have more thoughts which I will try to share more often but I’ve been busy ;) But watch this space – more coming very soon.

Honored to celebrate our team’s cutting-edge surface electromyography (sEMG) technology work. I'm bullish on this work, as I believe it represents the next groundbreaking way for people to control devices throughout their day. Since its debut at Meta Connect last year, this innovative core tech showed the power of what’s possible to revolutionize the way we interact with devices and each other. Today, our team in Wearables published a white paper to share how we’re shaping the future of human-computer interaction. Congratulations to Sacha Arnoud, Patrick Kaifosh and the entire team for your innovative work in bringing sEMG to Meta's Wearable devices. https://lnkd.in/gnKeAaXW

Our Reality Labs Team took a bold step forward with surface electromyography (sEMG) research, open-sourcing datasets for pose estimation and surface typing to support the research community. Now, we’ve released a white paper exploring how sEMG could transform human-computer interaction, offering an inclusive, innovative input paradigm for devices like AI glasses and wristbands. Learn how this groundbreaking technology differs from other interfaces and what it means for the future. ➡️ Read the white paper: https://lnkd.in/d-UVVei8 #LifeAtMeta #AI #AR #EMG
