Meet Francesca Aquino, a first-grade teacher at Lockeland Design Center and this week's #MNPSVoices feature! In her classroom, you can see her teaching philosophy in a framed image: "I, as the teacher, am not the holder of knowledge. I will empower students to be believe and trust in themselves as the drivers of their learning." “People think teaching is an adult telling a student what to do, but really, it’s so much deeper than that,” she said. “It’s a teacher giving the support and resources they need to find that knowledge on their own.” Take a listen to this second-year educator and be sure to read her profile on mnps.org. Are you a long-time educator? What is your teaching philosophy? https://lnkd.in/ebPXGxqh

#MNPSVoices: Lee Anne Carnell has only ever wanted to be a teacher. And, as a STEAM teacher at Dan Mills Elementary, she embraces a creative, hands-on approach in class: "What we do in here is we exercise our brains, and we become problem solvers.” https://lnkd.in/e9DQVxqy

Please celebrate this with us: A James Lawson High School student, with a previously undiagnosed heart condition, survived thanks to the quick action of staff and students who acted quickly and the two school nurses who conducted CPR, administered the automated external defibrillator, and worked with emergency and hospital staff. Counselor Linda Swift, nurses Natalie Carlise and Janavee Patel and the Lawson team were recognized by Dr. Adrienne Battle and the Board of Education last night for the lifesaving care they administered to student Hudson Maddux. Hudson will start school again this week! “You are all heroes, and we cannot thank you enough,” Dr. Battle said. True words. #TeamMNPS 👏

One of the things we especially love about MNPS Principals is their heartfelt dedication to students and families. Today’s example is #MNPSVoices feature Dr. Sharada Deaton from Wright Middle School. “Just seeing them prosper and become just better every day that is what I’m here for and that’s what gets me going every day,” Deaton says. The link to the full feature – with details about Wright’s new Global Media and Mass Communication curriculum -- is in the comments. https://lnkd.in/gwur-e8m
