That dream got a little bigger and a little brighter when Corry Station’s very own Chi Patrick was tapped to provide Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) services to the US Navy's finest, the US Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, Blue Angels. Chi was not selected for this position haphazardly. In all of my years as a counselor and military spouse, I have yet to come into contact with anyone who embodies not only the values and pride of our military but the heart, warmth, and enthusiasm it takes to provide exceptional care to everyone he serves. Chi has done a fantastic job building the structure and reputation of the MFLC program at Corry Station and continues to do so in standing up for the very first MFLC position within the Blue Angels. His dedication to the people he serves is unmatched, and I am proud to call him one of my mentors. As a retired Senior Chief who enlisted at 18, Chi’s dedication to the person he once was is simply inspirational. One of our #MagellanLeaders, Lindsay Streeper, VP of Marketing at Magellan, shares insights into her secret recipe for success. “I lead with a team mentality. I grew up playing sports and believe that everyone contributes to the team’s success, no matter how small or large the role. I look to my teammates for guidance and support and lead by example. I jump in to help no matter the task. I also excel at giving my team autonomy to balance their workloads and make their own decisions. I trust my team to do their jobs well and come to me when needed, but I also see value in learning from mistakes. I’ve found that pushing people beyond their comfort zones can lead to beautiful results. “Working at Magellan has given me an appreciation and understanding of the importance of mental health. To maintain a healthy work/life balance, I follow a simple rule: Prioritize what’s important. For me, that’s my family and being active for my physical health. I don’t take meetings on Fridays unless absolutely necessary, so I can use that time to catch up on the week and go into the weekend feeling like I can be present with my family. I take time off whenever my kids are out of school so I can spend time with them without being distracted by work, and I make sure I exercise first thing in the morning so I can feel energized and accomplished. She has also supported our team by uploading information for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and materials that we MFLCs can access and use during group activities and one-to-one sessions with the population we serve. Shannon has always been open to engaging with fellow MFLCs and problem-solving and planning through various situations in which fellow MFLCs may have benefitted from support.
