A Collaborative Quality Initiative dedicated to improving the quality of care for hospitalized medical patients.
About us
The Michigan Hospital Medicine Safety Consortium (HMS) is a data-driven collaborative designed to provide the infrastructure needed to facilitate information sharing to support Michigan hospitals in improving patient safety and the quality of care for hospitalized medical patients. The Consortium’s goal is to improve the quality of care for hospitalized medical patients who are at risk for adverse events and aims to do this via consortium building, tool and process refinement, evaluating and understanding current practice, implementing improvement strategies, and evaluating change over time. HMS has three current initiatives and two retired initiatives. Our current initiatives include Antimicrobial Use, Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC)/Midline, and Sepsis. Our retired initiatives include MiCOVID-19 and the Venous Thromboprophylaxis Initiative. Support for HMS is provided by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network as part of the BCBSM Value Partnerships program. Although Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and HMS work collaboratively, the opinions, beliefs, and viewpoints expressed by the author do not necessarily reflect the opinions, beliefs, and viewpoints of BCBSM or any of its employees.

On October 14, ATS held a webinar to review these recommendations, provide the status of the federal response to the crisis, and share fluid resuscitation recommendations for sepsis patients in the setting of a shortage. This video can be accessed using the link below - ATS Response to IV Fluid Shortage (Oct 14, 2024 webinar). 👉 https://lnkd.in/gN3nurn8

HMS has obtained permission to share a resource developed by the Johns Hopkins Prevention Epicenter Blood Culture Stewardship Collaborative with the support of the CDC to assist in optimizing blood culture utilization. This algorithm may be used to guide clinicians in the setting of a blood culture bottle shortage and moving forward for work in blood culture stewardship. The Blood Culture Stewardship Algorithm can be accessed on the HMS website. 💻 Website link ➡️ https://shorturl.at/7C7Ui
