Two individuals, Candie Gomez Rogers, the owner of Rose Garden Residential Care Home, and Librada Gomez Najera, an employee, were arrested in Santa Cruz County, California, and charged with felony elder abuse after the death of 88-year-old dementia patient Andrew Hegarty. The incident occurred in mid-November 2022, when Hegarty, dressed only in a T-shirt and diaper, wandered out of the facility and died from exposure about 0.4 miles away. According to the criminal complaint, the staff member responsible for Hegarty’s care fell asleep and failed to notice his absence. California Attorney General Rob Bonta emphasized the duty of care for elderly and dependent adults, pledging to take swift action against those who neglect or harm vulnerable individuals. https://lnkd.in/gYA9Jg8d
