Did you know that the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA) was the first federal law to provide funding specifically for domestic violence shelters? For 40 years, FVPSA has supported critical services like crisis intervention, counseling, and hotlines to ensure survivors have a place to turn. FVPSA is at the heart of our nation’s response to domestic violence. #40YearsofFVPSA #FVPSA #DomesticViolence

On #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we reflect on the impacts of colonialism, including the widespread violence in Native communities. Native women experience intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and stalking at alarming rates, often by non-Native perpetrators. The lasting effects of colonization, along with a complex legal framework that limits the prosecution of offenders, continue to undermine the safety of victims, leading to intergenerational trauma and vulnerability. The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian sheds light on these issues with its exhibition No Rest: The Epidemic of Stolen Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirits, which honors the lives of #Indigenouswomen and two-spirit individuals through art and storytelling. This exhibition aligns with the MMIWG2S movement, which raises awareness and addresses the lack of response to missing or murdered Native women, girls, and two-spirit individuals. On Monday, we marked one year since the devastating events of #October7. The pain and loss felt by the Jewish community remain profound. At Michael Reese, our commitment to standing by our partners, especially in moments of deep grief, has never wavered. As we approached the anniversary, we asked ourselves “what is ours to do in this moment?” For Michael Reese, the most meaningful way to honor the lives lost is by continuing to support the Jewish community and standing in solidarity. On Monday, Michael Reese team members joined The Ark and the Chicago Jewish Day School in a day of service, honoring the victims of October 7 and every life since that day. Thank you for welcoming us. It was a privilege to join you in honoring the victims and reflecting on the enduring strength of the #Jewishcommunity.

Recent research from the National Alliance to End Homelessness Homelessness Research Institute reveals that the recent surge in #homelessness across the United States is largely attributed to a significant increase in chronic homelessness.
