The future of sustainable packaging is here! UPM Specialty Papers and Michelman have joined forces to develop three cutting-edge structures for high-performance, recyclable paper packaging. These innovative solutions can replace multi-material, non-recyclable constructions while meeting requirements for shelf life, food contact, and recyclability. The results of this collaboration unlock exciting new possibilities for brands transitioning to more sustainable packaging. These structures have passed PTS-RH 021/97 cat II testing for recyclability and are available today: 💡 A high-barrier packaging material combining UPM Solide™ Lucent base paper with three Michelman water-based coatings which provide oxygen and moisture barriers, heat seal, and surface protection. Target end uses include packaging for coffee, chocolate, snacks, and other dry goods. 💡 UPM Asendo™ or UPM Asendo™ Pro papers, combined with Michelman’s next-generation heat-sealable barrier coatings, offer enhanced water resistance and moisture vapor barrier, and can be a good option for frozen food applications. 💡 UPM Asendo™ or UPM Asendo™ Pro papers paired with Michelman’s VaporCoat® 2240 coating deliver improved water and grease resistance, plus a moisture barrier. This combination is ideal for liners in corrugated cardboard boxes or pet food bags, providing added protection and durability without compromising recyclability. Fiber sizing is crucial in the manufacturing of advanced composites, providing essential benefits that help drive innovation.
