  • A letter from the Amish community regarding the Green Thumb Produce Auction 2024: Dated January 08, 2024 "Dear Friends, Greetings to allin the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ! We hope you are having a peaceful winter season! We, the board, have thought it may be of value to send you an update on the upcoming produce auction season. It seems our growers have stepped up to the plate, as projections for 2024 show an acreage increase of 50%! Going from 100 acres to 150 acres. Our greatest items of increase are as follows, in the order listed, cauliflower- broccoli- canteloupe- pie pumpkins- winter squash- green beans- bell peppers, and more. While we are excited to offer you a better quantity of product, if the Lord wills, we also hope you will be willing to expand your horizons on the buying end, as much as fits your needs. Now, a few changes we have in mind, on the pallet system, with terms as follows; there would be no charge to the buyer, as long as the buyer agrees to bring approximate amount of pallets back, the same as they took out. Thus, in this way our stock of pallets should stay stable. A buyer would have the option of paying for pallets that he takes out, to eliminate the obligation of bringing them back. The charge for 2024 would probably be $3.00 a pallet. If the honor system does not work, we will need to go back to another system. Also, starting September 2, Monday and Wednesday auctions will start at 3:00 P.M., with pumpkins, etc. selling first and produce to follow. This schedule will continue the rest of the year. The reason for this change is to help eliminate late, after dark hours for staff, buyers and all who are affected by this. As some of you may know, a new manager is on board for 2024, with Mervin Byle resigning to follow other interests and duties. We appreciate all Mervin has done to keep the auction running smoothly. We hope you as buyers are willing to do your part in communicating with the new manager as he gets the feel of this new position. The new manager is Marvin Miller. (former clerk) We hope you share our anticipation of a great year in 2024, such as the Lord gives his blessings! Your feedback on this update is welcome, but not mandatory. Thank You all for being a tremendous support to our livelyhood. We need you! The new manager's home phone number is, 989-872-9127. Questions welcome. Sincerely, from the manager and the Green Thumb Produce board"
