In 2021, the Michigan State Police and Western Michigan University partnered up to create a Cold Case Program, which provides students with an up-close look at old, unsolved cases and police work in criminal investigations. The students in the program have helped with 29 cold cases.
The #WMU Cold Case program is expanding its impact with a $200,000 investment from the state! Part of the state’s new budget signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the funding will enhance experience-driven learning for students by placing them on the front lines for investigations, touring law enforcement facilities and participating in professional training programs—building the skills they need to lead the next generation of law enforcement. “Partnerships with colleges and universities, such as we have with Western Michigan University, are a win-win in that we receive critical assistance with cold case investigations and students receive experience and exposure with law enforcement,” says Col. James Grady II, director of the Michigan State Police.

Last week, in recognition of #NationalForensicScienceWeek, members from the MSP Forensic Science Division (FSD) participated in a symposium where they learned from national forensic science experts, explored advancements in technology and methodology within their fields and worked on team dynamics and individual strengths. The MSP wishes to thank the dedicated members of our Forensic Science Division and Biometrics and Identification Division (BID) for their commitment to excellence and professional development. MSP forensic scientists play a crucial role in Michigan's criminal justice system. The results of forensic testing conducted in our laboratories may assist in the investigation of a crime, be used in criminal proceedings or eliminate a person from suspicion. Join us for a fulfilling career and make a difference. Apply today at Michigan.gov/MSPJobs. #MichiganStatePolice #ForensicScience #MIGovJobs
