Why Aren't Developers Using Documentation in Their R&D Process? In the fast-paced world of software development, documentation often takes a back seat. But why? Here are some common reasons developers shy away from it: Time Constraints: When deadlines loom, coding takes precedence over documenting. The pressure to deliver often leaves little room for thorough documentation. Perceived Lack of Value: Many developers view documentation as a non-essential task. The immediate benefits of writing code seem more tangible compared to the long-term benefits of having comprehensive documentation. Rapid Changes: In R&D, things change quickly. Documenting processes and code that might soon become obsolete can feel like a waste of time. Lack of Standardization: Without clear standards and guidelines, documentation can be inconsistent and less useful. This inconsistency can discourage developers from contributing. Cultural Factors: In some development environments, there’s a cultural norm of prioritizing coding over documenting. This can lead to a lack of emphasis on the importance of good documentation. The Impact of Ignoring documents via the R&D process is a poor onboarding experience for new team members. in addition to increased difficulty in maintaining and updating code and Loss of valuable knowledge when team members leave. The Solution? Integrate Documentation into the Workflow: Make it a part of the development process, not an afterthought. Promote Its Value: Highlight the long-term benefits, such as easier maintenance and better knowledge transfer. Establish Standards: Create clear guidelines for documentation to ensure consistency and usefulness. Lead by Example: Encourage senior developers to prioritize documentation to set a standard for the team. How do you handle documentation in your R&D process? Share your thoughts and experiences! 📚💡 😎

🚀 Microfrontends: The Future of Web Development 🚀 😎 1️⃣ Definition: Microfrontends is an architectural style where a web application is composed of independently deliverable frontend components. It extends the microservices concept to the frontend, enabling teams to develop, deploy, and manage parts of the UI independently. 2️⃣ Implementation: To implement microfrontends, follow these steps: Decompose: Split your application into feature-specific, self-contained frontend modules. Technology Choice: Each module can be built using different frameworks or libraries (e.g., React, Angular, Vue). Integration: Use techniques like iframes, JavaScript frameworks (e.g., single-spa), or web components to integrate these modules into a cohesive application. Deployment: Independently deploy each module, ensuring they communicate via shared APIs or events. 3️⃣ What's Next: The evolution of microfrontends will focus on: Better Tooling: Enhanced tools for seamless integration and module communication. Performance Optimization: Strategies to minimize overhead and ensure fast load times. Standardization: Industry standards to streamline development and integration practices. Embrace microfrontends to boost team autonomy, accelerate development cycles, and create scalable, maintainable web applications! 🌐💡 hashtag #Microfrontends hashtag #WebDevelopment hashtag #Frontend hashtag #TechInnovation

I came across the post of this Financial Times research: https://lnkd.in/dQhyVYcC and thought it should indeed interest all of us. Many of our India based team members must be in the ages qualifying for this research, or at least close to it. And as it states India itself was in the center of it. Trying to figure out and better understand how the young generations consume their news, is probably one of the biggest and most interesting challenges we all face.

When the opportunity arose for FT Strategies to lead research with Northwestern University Medill School on the future of news consumption for the Google News Initiative, I was elated. Since university, I've been captivated by the news industry and how people form opinions about social and political issues at home and overseas. I slid into everyone’s DMs, basically begging to be staffed on the project. Luckily for me, they listened. For the past year, my team and I have conducted interviews in 9 cities across India, Nigeria, and the US to understand how 18-25-year-olds consume the news. We recruited 45 participants from radically different walks of life. We sat in their homes and community spaces - sometimes for 3+ hours - and asked them everything about their lives: who do you trust? How do you start your day? What drives you? Yesterday, I shared our research with the top media organisations in the world’s largest democracy during the biggest election year in history alongside my mentor Sabrina Daryanani. The next generation is not like prior ones. They are savvy and sceptical, distracted yet invested... and don't necessarily trust legacy media. If news producers want to prepare for the future, they must find ways to engage and resonate with the next generation. And they need to start now. To learn more about our findings, you can access the microsite, report, and design toolkit here: https://lnkd.in/dwhDjcqB Leading this project was one of the proudest achievements of my life, but it could not have been done alone. There are too many people to thank but a couple to call out in particular: Lamberto Lambertini - We’ve travelled across 3 continents together and binge ate and cried from laughter in all of them. Thank you for caring so deeply about this industry. I have so much respect for your dedication and thoughtfulness. George Montagu - You are truly a force to be reckoned with. I aspire to command respect and authority the way you do. Thank you for constantly pushing us and coaching me along the way. I will miss our long walks across Millennium Bridge together. Thank you Ben Whitelaw for bringing the rigour of a real journalist, Daisy Donald for your oversight, and Aliya Itzkowitz for expertly stepping in during a tumultuous period in my life. A big thank you to our research partners Jeremy Gilbert, Joe Germuska, Tran Ha for guiding us through this process and the Google team Michele Slack, Arun Venkataraman, and Megan H. Chan for championing our independent work. Finally, a huge thank you to our 19 Advisory Board members from across the globe who challenged our thinking and gave us feedback at every stage. I’m sure we will cross paths again soon. This is only the start. Our team will be doing a world tour presenting this research over the coming months. If you have any questions or want to learn about ways we can work together in the future - please feel free to reach out.
