WHEN YOU SUPPORT MILFORD UNITED WAY, YOU SUPPORT YOUR NEIGHBORS The next time you are out and about in Milford at a place where there are lots of people — the grocery store, a school play, your place of worship — take a moment to look around you. These are your neighbors. You may know some of them by name. You may recognize some others. But what you may not see is that NEARLY ONE IN THREE is struggling to make ends meet amid the climbing costs of basic needs like housing, food and healthcare. Who are these struggling neighbors? She's the creative kindergarten teacher your teenager still talks about. He's the guy who plows your driveway before you leave for work, without fail. She's your favorite waitress, the one who knows your "usual" by heart. He's the nurse who usually draws your blood at the clinic — you never feel so much as a pinch, and you always leave with a funny story about his kids. It's the elderly couple next door who waters your plants when you're on vacation. You depend on your neighbors for support in so many ways, whether you realize it or not. And Milford United Way is the only local charitable organization that allows you to support your neighbors, in as many ways, in return. WHAT DO WE DO? Through our work with nearly two dozen partner agencies, your donation helps them all. Milford United Way connects Milford residents with resources, whatever their needs — fuel, food, housing, childcare, clothing, furniture, healthcare access. We fund a myriad of services to guarantee their availability to Milford residents. But that's only the beginning of the story. Milford United Way is building programs to address unmet needs and fill the gaps. We ask big questions about why things are the way they are, and how we can remove barriers and increase access for all. And we participate in these conversations wherever they occur — often, we lead them. But most of all, we listen. We listen to what our neighbors tell us they need. And we partner with them to find better solutions. WHAT CAN YOU DO? This year on Giving Tuesday, why not give back to your neighbors? It's easy. Simply put, your Milford United Way needs your support – more than ever. Just about every day, one of our neighbors reaches out to us with a dire need. Often, we are their last resort. What would happen if we weren’t here to help? Over the past year, we’ve helped scores of people in need of a place to stay, fuel, rent money, clothes to look for a job, diapers, school supplies, holiday support. And sometimes people just need a friendly voice instead of automated phone menus. Here at the Milford United Way, we are working to build programs to help alleviate the realities of those struggling to put food on their tables, living in fear of losing their homes, or facing mental health challenges. We seek, vet, and support organizations that are doing great work for our community, collaborating with them for even greater success. The United Way is intrinsic to Milford, helping families, neighbors, and local agencies since 1957. But, the need has never been as pressing as it is today. According to the 2023 United Way ALICE report, about 30% of Milford’s families are at risk – hardworking neighbors who struggle to make ends meet. So please, we urge you to contribute what you can to help our community. Follow the link to support our work: https://lnkd.in/eaYFtbWv Thank you for your consideration. #milfordct #LiveUnited
