Much of the wizardry behind our #insurtech tools comes from our clinical team, who are the best in the biz. But don’t just take our word for it. #AAIM has recognized Kimberly Sapre, DMSc, PA-C, CAQ-EM, DFAAPA as its member of the month. It’s a true credit to her that the insurance medical directors we serve and collaborate with chose to showcase her talents and contributions from among its ranks. It’s a privilege to partner with this esteemed organization in shaping the future of the industry. Brava, Kimberly!

Congratulations to Kimberly Sapre, DMSc, PA-C, CAQ-EM, DFAAPA, Medical Consultant at Milliman IntelliScript and our October 2024 AAIM Member of the Month! Kimberly has been an AAIM member since January 2024 and after attending the AAIM Annual Meeting in Montreal, she is our newest member of the AAIM Social Media Committee. She is passionate about identifying and eliminating healthcare disparities, she is a teacher at the Shenandoah University Doctor of Medical Science Program teaching the Health Equity and Justice Course, and has founded and remains active in the nonprofit organization, The Virginia Association of Minority PAs, which focuses on increasing diversity in the PA profession. AAIM is so happy you are part of our organization, we are appreciative of your willingness to volunteer for our group, and look forward to being a part of your educational journey and success in the field of Insurance Medicine!

As a teenager you hear from your parents (a lot) that life’s not fair. That may be true, but we think #underwriting should be. That’s why we’re headed to the 2024 SOA ImpACT Conference, October 27–29, to share our thoughts on fairness and bias in underwriting. Don't miss our session co-presented by Sue Bartholf that explores proposed regulations and practices, tools and techniques, and challenges in overcoming bias in underwriting. #Insurance #SOA

Those life insurance applicants you declined? PartnerRe has gone and estimated their average mortality. And WHY would that matter? We’re glad you asked! 🤓 Despite the best #underwriting intentions, some such high risks inevitably slip through. Knowing their mortality is the first step towards understanding their impact on your business. In his brilliant white paper, Ehren Nagel, FSA, MAAA 🧠 made clever use of Irix Risk Score to help answer the question, “Do declinable risks really have 500% relative mortality, or is that another rule of thumb we should reconsider?” It’s a fascinating read. https://lnkd.in/geYJX62Z

We turned these four brainiacs 🧠 loose to explore the mortality implications of severe obesity—a condition that affects 9.2% of American adults. In this fascinating Q&A interview, they share how they approached the data with learned preconceptions and showed that millions of people with BMIs ≥40 actually have better-than-average mortality—a notion that is contrary to long-held underwriting standards. https://lnkd.in/gEQ4Jm82 The upshot: life insurers can cover more people and issue more business with more confidence than ever. Great work, team! 👏👏👏 #MeetOurExperts #lifeinsurance #underwriting

Check out Jenna Fariss, ASA, MAAA's eye-opening article in ON THE RISK. Our nicotine mortality study is changing the way insurers view and assess smoker applicants.

Rethinking smoking risk: The life insurance industry has long held that tobacco-using applicants have 200% mortality across the board. But this rule profoundly understates the risk. Smokers’ comorbidities are far deadlier, and their elevated mortality is surprisingly durable, even if they successfully quit. 🚬 Could tools that highlight nicotine use be the single most effective way to limit underwriting slippage and enhance profitability? 💡 https://ow.ly/o6Bh50TxJLl

Look for Angela Bolduc on this panel of industry leaders, "How AI is Revolutionizing the Life Insurance Industry", hosted by our friends at Sikka.ai. She'll be part of discussions about: - How much of the life insurance sales cycle can be automated with generative AI - from lead generation and quoting, underwriting, fraud detection, policy management, and even retention and claims? - How much of the underwriting process could or should be automated, and what are the potential dangers or regulatory impacts? - As the world shifts towards machine learning and AI, how important will investing in and acquiring new data sources be? Mark your calendars for October 24th and join us for this engaging discussion! 🚀 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g2hCxvP7
