I love trade shows & mastermind events for INFORMATION GATHERING. I’m on my way back from Million Dollar Sellers’ annual summit. Here’s how I do it: Before a trip I write down everything I hope to learn from the event. Then every breakfast, lunch, dinner party, cocktail party I ask people questions like: “have you ever dealt with ____ or know someone that has?” In a room with hundreds of the best brands / sellers in the world (this group is specifically focused on Amazon)… you can quickly find the information you’re looking for and then make friends with the experts on the subject. This can really only happen in industry events where you have hundreds/thousands of experts gathered in one time and place for a few days. The medium of an event is critical. After the event I follow up with those experts and we all end up helping each other out with our problems through intros, information sharing, etc. While initially they’re giving me more value than I give them, I try to reciprocate in any way possible where I can give them value in some other subject matter that I’m an expert in but they’re not. Usually after a few weeks/months the relationship becomes a symbiotic friendship. Even on what they’re helping me with—you have to be a quick study or else someone will get frustrated with you. I really pride myself on trying to know all the experts across the various distribution/marketing/supply channels that our business is involved in or looking to get involved in. I believe a CEO should spend a LARGE percentage of their time on strategy. To inform strategy, you have to know who the experts are and what the experts are doing… To make any marketing/distribution/supply/etc strategy and then staff against it… you have to be well informed! And honestly, to do that, I think you need to attend lots of events. While you’ll solve the problems you wanted to solve, you’ll also get introduced to new things you hadn’t even seen before that you may want to consider in future strategy. Therefore, events end up being a mix of solving things you’re currently working on and being exposed to new things that you aren’t. The only problem is that it’s hard to predict the new things you’ll learn!

The Million Dollar Sellers Summit 2024 is here! I’ll be with Hank in Denver until Wednesday learning and sharing with some of the best Amazon/TikTok/eCommerce leaders in the world. The median person here sells $5m/year on Amazon alone… When Hank Holcomb and I attended last year I thought we were big dogs doing $8m/year and profitable… then we met people doing $80m a year and profitable. Seeing this level of success will either make you depressed or excited! Meeting some of these leaders really lit a fire in our gut that we could be doing so much more. Sometimes I think a large part of success is just seeing that it’s possible and then learning directly from those people. It creates a new ceiling for you. I’m excited to see what we’re going to learn over the next 3 days. Like last year, I imagine that we’ll be able to tie much of our future growth back to the people we meet and things we’ll learn here!

Early morning flight this Sunday… on my way to Denver for the Million Dollar Sellers’ Summit! This gathering is for the top 700 Amazon sellers in the world. The median seller in this group does $8m/year on Amazon alone… Talk about heavy hitters! 🤯 On another note: It’s really hard to travel and eat healthy—especially in airports. Typically I just try to avoid eating at airports and will just skip those meals. I was introduced to ketones from my friend, Michael Brandt, of Ketone-IQ. He’s probably not allowed to say this for FDA reasons… but goodness I find these good for energy and appetite control in absence of a meal. I have a rule I try to follow. If there are no healthy options to eat, don’t eat. Use it as an opportunity to fast/skip a meal/restrict calories/etc. These Ketone IQ products really help me pull off skipping a meal and still keep energy, focus, and a will to live. 🤣 This time last year I hovered around 210lbs. Now I’m hovering around 190lbs. But that doesn’t tell the full story because I’m also much stronger. It’s been slow and hard getting back in shape with 83 work days on the road this year. But it has been solid progress nonetheless. It can be done! Why the focus on fitness? Well, with the birth of our firstborn and the doubling of Cheers… life has been harder/busier than ever. Just like the military, being healthy is an aspect of readiness. For me, maintaining readiness is part of my job as both a leader at home and the workplace. Honesty, I wish all Americans thought this way. Health is more about yourself. It’s about being ready and fit for the job for those around you. It’s about being ready for any challenge that life might throw your way!
