Wisconsin Architect magazine features “The Future Forward Museum,” written by Ennead Principal Jarrett Pelletier. The article highlights the shifting role of the museum of natural history and the process of developing Milwaukee Public Museum’s Future Museum. “To design a museum that is truly of the people and of the place, there is a need for deep and direct community engagement, which has always been central to our design approach. This is something that our client, the Milwaukee Public Museum, recognized from the very beginning... MPM wanted the Future Museum to respect the interconnected relationships between Wisconsin’s complex natural history and the many cultures that have engaged it over time and establish a welcoming community anchor.” Read the full article at the link below. https://lnkd.in/eUhAuBEK Kahler Slater, thinc design, GGN #mpm #futuremuseum #wisconsin #wisconsinwonders #communityengagement

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, which begins this weekend and goes through May 11, we’re proud to announce that Herb Kohl Philanthropies has provided a $2 million gift to the Future Museum project! This generous donation will, in part, establish the Herb Kohl Education Fund, providing educators with free memberships to the new museum during the first three years it’s open as well as connect them to the Future Museum’s resources that can help enhance their curriculum. During his inspiring career in business and public service, Herb Kohl also recognized the importance of investing in early childhood and K-12 education. We’re grateful that his legacy will continue through the Future Museum!

MPM is seeking to hire an Indigenous artist to design and create an art installation of an Indigenous dwelling that will be featured in the garden plaza of the Future Museum. The plaza is an outdoor green space located adjacent to the Museum building, which will be used for outdoor learning and engagement focused on nature. The installation is intended to pay tribute to Wisconsin’s First Nations, especially those who have called this land home. It should convey a sense of welcome to all visitors and connection to this land. After four years of service as MPM Board Chair, P.J. DiStefano, Managing Partner at Deloitte, has officially passed the gavel to John Roberts, Executive Vice President and Chief Distribution Officer at Northwestern Mutual. P.J. served as Board Chair during a critical time for MPM. He was instrumental in helping MPM navigate the many challenges brought by COVID, as well as helping us launch our Future Museum project—from the building and exhibit design process to the fundraising campaign. We are grateful for P.J.'s guidance and commitment to MPM. We simply can’t thank him enough! We'd also like to congratulate our new Board Chair, John Roberts! He has already shown a passion for MPM’s mission as a board member, and we are excited to tap into his leadership as we enjoy the final few years in our current building and continue our journey to a new home.

Not every CEO can say they've studied lizards alone on a deserted island used by drug runners. Check out MPM President & CEO Dr. Ellen Censky's story about her first night in the Caribbean on a research trip. MPM staff, from our CEO to our curators and collections managers, have conducted and studied important scientific and cultural research from all around the world (and even outer space)!
