And the Governor’s Tourism Award goes to… the Museum! 🎉We are honored to receive this award that recognizes those who bring arts and culture to life, making a big impact on tourism and the local community. Being a part of Milwaukee's rich cultural landscape begins with the artworks we display and the stories we tell about them and extends through all of the work we do to grow and inspire our audiences inside the galleries and beyond. We are proud to call Wisconsin home and champion our city and state’s national profile through our work, which connects visitors with art, each other, and the world. These experiences are made possible by the dedication and hard work of our Museum staff, whose passion and expertise bring art to life every day.

Sunny had a big photoshoot recently! He modeled without complaint for seven hours as Museum photographer Cleber Bonato created a new high-resolution digital image of everyone’s best friend. Bonato stitched together 63 photos to construct a digital file that is 600 pixels per inch. Capturing works of art at this level of detail allows for zooming way in to discover details you wouldn’t otherwise see. Experiencing an artwork in person is irreplaceable, yet digital images have their benefits. They expand art’s reach (to people unable to travel and around the world) and provide a different perspective (closer in than the arm’s-length-away distance in the galleries).

OPENS MAY 30 | Experience the boundary-crossing works of renowned artist Erin Shirreff in her most comprehensive exhibition in a decade when “Permanent Drafts” opens this spring! Through sculpture, photography, video, and collage, explore the gap between three-dimensional art objects and their two-dimensional representation. Trained as a sculptor, Shirreff uses photography to challenge assumptions about perception, reality, and the limitations of reproduction.
