Meta's Threads has hit 175 million monthly active users in less than a year! Launched on July 5, 2023, Threads saw meteoric growth, reaching 100 million users in its first week. Seamless integration with Instagram helped. By Q1 2024, it had 150 million monthly active users. Despite initial retention issues, Threads kept growing, adding 25 million users in the two months leading up to July 2024. Daily engagement metrics offer deeper insights. After an initial drop in daily active users, Threads stabilized. By October 2023, it had 33 million daily active users out of 120 million monthly users. Average time spent on the app varied, peaking at 21 minutes daily before dropping to around 3 minutes. Meta focuses on increasing user activity and retention. Threads keeps adding features to boost engagement. New additions include a web app, trending topics, editing functions, and real-time sports updates. Joining the Fediverse expanded cross-platform interactions. The "Hidden Words" feature improved content moderation. ThreadsDeck and the Threads API opened new possibilities for developers and users. Threads expanded to the European Union in December 2023, adding potential users by 448 million. Initial delays were due to EU regulations like the Digital Markets Act. Meta worked to navigate these regulations, focusing on markets where Threads could attract users from competitors. This expansion could lead to a significant user influx.
