About us
Nonprofits are a force for good. We're here to help. Our mission is to inform, promote, connect and strengthen individual nonprofits and Minnesota's nonprofit sector. We accomplish our mission through: + Education and professional development for nonprofit staff; + Research on nonprofit sector trends, tax, and budget issues; + Advocacy at local, state, and federal levels; + Public policy and civic engagement education; and + Cost saving partnership offerings for nonprofit members. MCN was founded in 1987 to meet the increasing information needs of nonprofits and to convene nonprofits to address issues facing the sector. We are the largest state association of nonprofits in the U.S. Through MCN, nonprofits join together across interest areas to work on issues of common concern to all.

Nonprofits have just over two months left to access State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds from state and local governments before the opportunity expires. While nonprofits are eligible, the data reveals that nonprofits have not received their fair share: not even 5% of projects and obligated funds include nonprofits. Learn about accessing State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds via National Council of Nonprofits: https://lnkd.in/eWjSSpws

All employers, including #nonprofits, are required to fund unemployment benefits but did you know that the Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA) of 1972 allows 501c3 organizations to opt out of paying state unemployment taxes to become “reimbursable employers?” When an organization operates in this way, it reimburses the state dollar-for-dollar for only the unemployment benefits paid out to former employees as they occur, rather than subsidizing for-profit entities when paying into the state unemployment tax system. Download UST’s “It’s All About the Numbers Infographic” and discover how your organization could benefit by working with UST Workforce Solutions—potentially saving your nonprofits thousands annually. https://lnkd.in/gJn54ydP

Yesterday, a long-sought overhaul of the federal grantmaking rules went into effect. The changes, if followed by governments and availed upon by nonprofits, will be transformative in communities. The more nonprofits know about this the more prepared they will be to participate in, and advance their missions through, the federal grantmaking process. Our friends at the National Council of Nonprofits have shared some helpful insights and resources to help nonprofits understand what these changes mean for nonprofits: https://lnkd.in/gqVitu-n
