Today (Aug. 26) the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) recognizes Women’s Equality Day, which commemorates the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution granting women the right to vote. The amendment prohibits denial of the right to vote to U.S. citizens on the basis of sex. This day is significant to women Veterans who have broken many barriers within their fields to proudly serve our nation.

Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) is at the fair! Our state is home to more than 285,000 Veterans and thousands more family members. This year, the State Fair is paying special recognition to military spouses on Tuesday, August 27, State Fair Military Appreciation Day. Join MDVA at 10 a.m. at the Leinie Lodge for a program of appreciation. Dan Patch Park will host numerous organizations that support all Veterans and their families. Booths will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include MDVA, the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, Beyond The Yellow Ribbon, Veterans Resilience Project, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and many more. MDVA will also staff a booth in the Education Building daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. We hope to see you at the Fair

Thank you to Classic Corvettes of Minnesota for bringing your "Vettes for Vets" car show to Minnesota Veterans Homes - Minneapolis. Residents, guests and staff enjoyed getting a close-up view of approximately 50 stunningly classic muscle cars. Owners shared both automotive history and lots of on-the-road tales from days gone by. Classic Corvettes enthusiasts also served up root beer floats to the crowd. A tip of the hat to everyone on your team for consistently supporting our Veterans!

A Harvest in Hastings! Residents and team members at the Minnesota Veterans Home – Domiciliary in Hastings are seeing the fruits of their labor. Resident Charles and others have been digging in the dirt among the raised beds and other gardens to bring fresh produce to their fellow “Dom-mates!” Cucumbers, tomatoes and heirloom peppers are just the start of what they’ll see later in the summer.
