This week, we proudly unveiled a beautiful new mural at the Minnesota Veterans Homes - Minneapolis! What started as a wellness initiative to bring color and inspiration to our busy tunnel areas has blossomed into a powerful tribute to our dedicated employees and the Veterans we serve. Local artist Jendayi Berry collaborated with our staff to design a piece that truly reflects who we are and the care we provide. The mural, now standing tall, celebrates the heart and compassion of our team. Jendayi’s work, deeply rooted in the idea of duality and perspective, beautifully reflects his belief that the natural world offers insight into who we are and can be. His unique style uses symmetry, movement, color, and light to shift perspectives and create a shared understanding. Thank you to MDVA Commissioner Brad Lindsay, Deputy Commissioner, Eric Meittunen, our Campus Administrator, Doug Britain and all who attended the dedication of this meaningful artwork. It will forever serve as a testament to the work we do and the Veterans we honor.
Last week firefighters from the Montevideo Fire Department stopped by the Montevideo Veterans Home to visit Residents and show them some of their equipment. Everyone had a blast operating the water hose! Multiple Montevideo Veteran Residents had been firefighters themselves and served for over 20 years!

What a wonderful event! Last weekend, Minnesota Veterans Homes - Minneapolis had the pleasure of welcoming 84 horses and their riders on an Urban Trail Ride as they trotted through our campus. Led by the Minneapolis Mounted Police, these beautiful horses crossed the Minnehaha Bridge and strolled through the park, stopping to greet Residents, visitors, and staff along the way. The smiles, laughter, and warm memories made it a truly special day for everyone! Since 1996, the Minneapolis Mounted Patrol has proudly operated in our city. As the only mounted police unit in Minnesota, we were thrilled to have them share this experience with our Residents!
A powerful bond of military service was demonstrated as members of the community gathered to honor an unaccompanied Veteran named Everett who was recently laid to rest at our Minnesota State Veterans Cemeteries – Preston. Preston Veterans Homes Residents, Cemetery staff, local motorcycle club riders and community members showed up for Everett, who did not have a family member in attendance for his service. Read the full story here: https://bit.ly/3A4Miag One of the most requested benefits Minnesota Veterans make is dignified and compassionate burial in one of four Minnesota State Veterans Cemeteries. This benefit is available for no cost for eligible Veterans - visit MinnesotaVeteran.org for more info.
