My kids decided to host a lemonade stand. Well, first they decided that they wanted to sell diluted Gatorade ice. So I taught them about nicheing down without reinventing the wheel. They landed on lemonade and home grown tomatoes bunches (grown hydroponically by their grandfather). So I taught them how to write a business plan. To estimate expenses for supply and inventory. To determine targets and adjust pricing to fit the market. I gave them a loan of $17 to purchase supplies and they paid $1/tomato for inventory to their vendor (their grandfather). It was a Tuesday at 3pm. So I taught them about understanding the habits and patterns of their target audience. They rescheduled for Saturday from 12-2pm at the neighborhood pool. So I taught them about marketing and asking for referrals. They walked around the neighborhood and told everyone who was outside what they were selling and asked them to spread the word. They generated $49 in revenue in 2 hours. So I taught them about the difference between revenue and profit. And how to run a P&L report. They paid back their loan (0% interest because it was less than 24 hours), set aside $16 to reinvest in their business, and pocketed $8 each. They are already talking about starting a trash hauling business for the community. I typically work with $5M companies. But sometimes you gotta invest in a start up.
